Xavi seems Qatar-bound
Xavi Hernandez is considering life after Barcelona as the 35-year-old plans to leave the club at the end of the season despite the fact that he will still have one year remaining on his contract.
The club captain is featuring less and less in Luis Enrique's plans and has consequently started pulling some strings in search of a future solution. The aim is to find a suitable destination with a more relaxed rhythm than that of the Catalan giants, with competitions such as the Champions League and La Liga starting to take their toll.
The most likely current scenario is for Xavi to accept an offer that is already on the table from Qatar. It would be a three-year contract on an estimated €6m net per season. The Spaniard could potentially pocket €18m from the deal.
Qatar is an attractive destination as it offers a league championship that fits what Xavi is looking for. His family is also enthusiastic about the idea and it goes without saying that the deal is hugely tempting financially.
There is another option, however, which would be to play in the United States. New York City declared their interest in signing the Barcelona midfielder last year, although Xavi could not bring himself to leave his beloved 'Azulgranas' at the time. The transfer window has just closed for MLS clubs and, although it will open again in the summer, the New York outfit no longer seem interested in the veteran midfielder.
