Impressive crowds, high-scoring matches and record numbers watching the games unfold live on TV: the appeal of the UEFA Europa League has never been so high – and shows little sign of stopping.<br />

The draw for the last 16 was made on Friday after an engaging night of football that had fans in the stadiums and around the world glued to the action. Some of the headline numbers following the round of 32 show just how the competition is continuing to grow:<br />

• The second-highest attendance in UEFA Europa League history – 63,324 – was recorded last night at the Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadium in Istanbul as Beşiktaş JK defeated Liverpool FC on penalties. "It was the best atmosphere I have played in," said Liverpool veteran Kolo Touré.<br />
<br />
• In fact, three of the top ten attendances in the six-year history of the competition were achieved over the last eight days. The last-32 first leg between Celtic FC and FC Internazionale Milano attracted 58,500 fans, with 54,308 turning up for FC Dynamo Kyiv versus EA Guingamp in Ukraine.<br />

• In the round of 32, 68.37% of stadiums were full. This is highest average for this stage of the competition in the last five seasons.<br />

• Several TV ratings records were broken:<br />
- In the UK, 1.9 million viewers watched Beşiktaş v Liverpool, the highest early slot audience ever recorded in the country.<br />
<br />
- In Spain, the Athletic Club v Torino FC game had 2.3 million viewers, the most watched match of the season in the competition.<br />
<br />
- In the Netherlands, 2.3 million viewers watched Feyenoord v AS Roma, the best figures for a UEFA Europa League match in the country.<br />
<br />
- In addition, 1.4 million people watched Legia Warszawa v AFC Ajax, the highest audience in an early slot since 2011/12.<br />
<br />
- In Germany, 2.6 million viewers saw the Sporting Clube de Portugal v VfL Wolfsburg game, the highest audience for a UEFA Europa League game achieved in the last two seasons.<br />

• The official UEFA Europa League Facebook page passed 10m likes during the round of 16 draw.<br />

A crowd of 63,324 – the second-highest in UEFA Europa League history – watched Beşiktaş JK spoil Liverpool FC's return to the scene of their 2004/05 UEFA Champions League triumph, with goalkeeper Cenk Gönen sure that accounts have been settled after the Black Eagles' shoot-out victory.<br />

The Reds beat AC Milan on penalties at Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadium in 2005, but the big result in the eyes of the Beşiktaş players was clearly their predecessors' 8-0 defeat at Anfield in the 2007/08 UEFA Champions League group stage – Beşiktaş's heaviest European defeat, and indeed the heaviest loss suffered by any club in the UEFA Champions League (group stage to final).<br />

With the tie going to penalties after the teams traded 1-0 wins, the first nine spot kicks were scored before Dejan Lovren blazed Liverpool's fifth over. "We had a history with Liverpool and I think we have settled the score now," said Cenk. "It was important for the team, for the club, for the fans. [For Lovren's penalty] I waited until the very last moment before he shot. I did not move and I think it played a part in making him miss."<br />

Austrian midfielder Veli Kavlak was overwhelmed by the emotion of the occasion and proud that his side had showed their courage under pressure. "We are so happy, I am speechless," he said. "It is a very beautiful night for the club. This happiness we feel is indescribable. Before the shoot-out, coach [Slaven Bilić] came to us and said he was proud of us – that we had dominated 120 minutes of play and that we had nothing to lose. Then he asked: 'Who wants to take one?' and everybody raised their hand."<br />

Serdar Kurtuluş, the only member of the current Beşiktaş side who was involved in the 2007/08 meetings with Liverpool, knew the magnitude of the occasion more than most. "It was a really important game for us," he said. "We got the first goal by playing really well and we could have finished the job in 90 minutes. We had a missed chance in the last minute but that was how it was meant to be. We did it the hard way but what mattered is that we won. Thank God – we are incredibly happy."<br />

Liverpool's Kolo Touré, meanwhile, did his best to put a brave face on things. "A win would have been really, really good, but that's football," he shrugged. "We could have won, but we didn't. We just need to forget about tonight, learn from the defeat, and be ready for the Manchester City game on Sunday. Was the atmosphere tough for the younger players? Definitely. The atmosphere here was unbelievable – I think it was the best I ever played in. Honestly."<br />

Leverkusen, odds-on 1/3 favourites, have been beaten just once in their 
previous five meetings with Freiburg, and recently toppled Spanish

Played for both: Five PL era forwards at Liverpool and Man City

It isn’t uncommon, looking back through history, to find players who 
have plied their trade at a number of Premier League clubs, and when the
 fixture list throws up a classic such as Liverpool and Manchester City,
 we at Coral find it irresistible to look back at famous names, with 
City 7/5 with Coral to win this latest battle.<br />
As a result, we have come up with five forwards who have played for both Liverpool and Manchester City.<br />
<strong>Daniel Sturridge</strong><br />
The 25-year-old started his career at Man City, before being sold to 
Chelsea who recognised an opportunity to add more young English talent 
to their ranks. Having just come back from a long injury lay-off, 
Sturridge is 7/4 with Coral to net anytime against Manuel Pellegrini’s side.<br />
<strong>Robbie Fowler</strong><br />
A Liverpool legend, upon leaving the club where he started his career 
and scored 120 goals in 236 appearances, Fowler went on to play for 
Leeds United and Man City where he netted 20 in 80, before making a 
sensational return to the Reds to score eight goals in 30 outings. <br />
<strong>Nicolas Anelka</strong><br />
‘Le Sulk’ joined the Reds on loan from PSG in 2001 and dispatched four 
goals in 20 outings, before joining Man City to score 37 goals in 89 
appearances. Perhaps one of the most travelled footballers of his 
generation, Anelka has played for 12 different clubs, including Real 
Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea.<br />
<strong>Craig Bellamy</strong><br />
Capped by Wales 78 times, the 35-year-old was effective wherever he has 
played throughout his career. He had two stints at Liverpool, five years
 apart (2006-07 and 2011-12), where he scored a combined 13 goals in 51 
appearances.<br />
<strong>Mario Balotelli</strong><br />
One of the more controversial strikers on this list, which is saying 
something considering the last three, who often divided opinion with 
their antics, each of them would have a job competing with the Italian. 
Balotelli scored 20 goals in 59 appearances with City, winning the 
Premier League title in 2012, assisting Sergio Aguero for the goal which
 literally ensured the trophy would be heading to the Etihad.<br />

He is yet to make an impression at Liverpool so far this season, but Balotelli is starting to show promising signs and is 2/1 to net anytime.<br />
