When they last met, Borussia Dortmund embarrassed Juventus of the
Zinedine Zidane, Christian Vieri, Didier Deschamps and Alessandro Del
Piero vintage. A repeat scoreline from the 1997 Champions League final,
3-1 to the Bundesliga boys, is a remote prospect at 40/1 with Coral in
Turin, however.
Over two legs, Juve have never lost a tie to Dortmund. Couple that
with the Old Lady topping Serie A and their German visitors being in
mid-table, and it’s easy to see why Massimiliano Allegri’s side are
odds-on 5/6 favourites to advance.
Punters should note Dortmund are even-money to make the
quarter-finals, though make for 11/4 outsiders to take a lead back to
the Westfalenstadion for the second leg.
Juventus, who are unbeaten at home across all competitions this term, feature in a Coral matchday special of 4/1 for victory with both teams being on target. There is a maximum stake of £20 on this enhanced bet.
In competitive appearances, namely not counting a penalty shoot-out
loss to Napoli in the Italian Super Cup, Juve boast a 20-match run
without defeat. This makes for a tall order for Dortmund to win in
Turin, but the recent loyalty shown by star player Marco Reus is
touching.
If Jurgen Klopp’s men are to have any hope of upsetting the Italian
giants away, then they will need big performances from Reus and other
forwards. Having signed a new contract with Dortmund, Reus has netted in
each of his last three outings, so it’s no surprise they’ve experienced
a domestic revival, and on both occasions he’s turned out in the
Champions League this term.
Based on that, Reus is hugely tempting at 11/4 in the anytime market. Gabon attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, meanwhile, has four in his last going into this one, and is 15/8 to score once more.
Dortmund striker Ciro Immobile faces his former club here, and never
made the great at Juventus, but excited across town at Turin rivals
Torino. He’s saved his best form for Europe’s elite club competition
with four goals in five appearances, and is 13/2 to strike first.
A familiar face to Premier League fans in Carlos Tevez should
spearhead Juve’s attack. He leads Serie A’s scoring charts this season
with 14, and has netted three times in Europe. Back Tevez, then, at 6/4
in the anytime market, or 11/2 to grab the opener.
Vying to partner Tevez up top are Spanish strikers Fernando Llorente
and Alvaro Morata. Both are equal 7/4 anytime scorer chances after doing
so in their previous starts.
Allegri could do with more goals from midfield, though, and Andrea
Pirlo is clinical from dead balls. The Juventus playmaker continues to
chip in, and is 7/2 in the anytime market. Paul Pogba, meanwhile, is the
Old Lady’s brightest prospect, and is 5/1 to net anytime.
If the Champions League group stage was anything to go by, then this
elite European club competition is a leveller. Forget about domestic
form as Juve struggled to reach the knockout phase and Dortmund
delivered in continental action to qualify with ease. A draw at 9/4 is
thus very appealing.
