2019/20 A-League Week 24 – Preview, Expert Betting Tips & Odds

As the coronavirus pandemic gripped Australia, the A-League continued with Sydney FC failing to further their lead at the top of the table with a 0-0 home draw with Perth Glory. Wellington Phoenix’s incredible season continued with a 3-0 win over Melbourne Victory – a result that has seen them climb to 3rd in the table. Melbourne City drew with Western Sydney Wanderers in a result that doesn’t really suit either side whilst Newcastle Jets and Brisbane Roar picked up excellent results over Adelaide United and Central Coast Mariners respectively.
Matches are due to be played behind closed doors between now and the end of the campaign, with growing uncertainty over the impact of the coronavirus in Australia and New Zealand.
Here are our picks for the 24th round of fixtures in the A-League:

Central Coast Mariners vs Melbourne City – Central Coast Stadium

Central Coast Mariners ($5.5)
Melbourne City ($1.6)
Draw ($4.33)
Two sides that need points for different reasons face off on the Central Coast as the Mariners welcome Melbourne City to town. Nine consecutive defeats have left the Mariners bottom of the table and the gap between themselves and Melbourne Victory in 10th is now 7 points. They were unlucky in defeat on the road at Brisbane Roar last time out and they will be hoping to bounce back at home here. Melbourne City will be looking to continue their 3-game unbeaten streak as they push for a top 2 finish. They draw with WSW last time out keeps them 2nd in the table but they only have a one-point advantage to Wellington Phoenix behind them. With the play-off period looming, City will be desperate to keep confidence in the camp high and they should pick up a solid win on the road here at Central Coast.
Betting tip: Melbourne City to win the match ($1.6)
Melbourne City to win 2-0

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Sydney FC – Bankwest Stadium

WSW ($3.5)
Sydney FC ($2.1)
Draw ($3.6)
The Sydney Derby takes centre stage in game week 24 as WSW welcome Sydney FC to the Bankwest Stadium. WSW simply can’t seem to string results together an as a result find themselves languishing in 8th place in the table. They picked up an excellent draw on the road at Melbourne City last time out and with only a 2-point deficit between themselves and the teams above them, they will fancy their chances of sneaking a play-off place this term. With their win over Sydney FC at the Jubilee Stadium last month fresh in the memory, they will arrive full of confidence here. With a 10-point gap to the chasing pack, Sydney FC look to have the title wrapped up already this season. They have found consistency hard to come by in recent weeks though and their 0-0 draw with Perth Glory last time out was particularly uninspiring They are sure to be focusing their attention towards the impending play-offs, so squad rotation looks assured, but they will be eager to keep wins coming in, especially against their local rivals. This should be an excellent game and if Sydney FC play to their abilities, they should come through this one.
Betting tip: Sydney FC to win the match ($2.1)
Sydney FC to win 2-1

Perth Glory vs Western United – nib Stadium

Perth Glory ($1.65)
Western United ($5)
Draw ($4.1)
5th takes on 6th in the A-League as Perth Glory welcome Western United to town in what looks to be a classic play-off six-pointer. With only one point picked up from their last 3 games, Perth Glory have dropped to 5th in the A-League table and they will be looking over their shoulder to the cluster of sides below them in the play-off race. Their draw with Sydney FC last time out was a real demonstration of their defensive organization but with a lack of obvious goal threat currently, they look to be struggling to hurt opposition teams. They have a 4-point gap to the likes of Western United below them, but they won’t want to lose that here. For Western United, their first season in the A-League has been a success as they continue to mix it with the big boys. They enjoyed a rest week last time out but with back to back wins in the bank coming into this one, they should be full of confidence. They have a 4-point gap to make up on the teams in the play-offs and they will see this as a free hit on the road in Perth. This should be a very close game that Perth should just about prevail from when calling upon their wealth of big game experience.
Betting tip: Perth Glory to win the match ($1.65)
Perth Glory to win 2-1
