AUSTRALIAN OPEN – DAY 3 TIPS

We enter the second round of the Australian Open and we still have a strong Australian contingency! De Minaur, Millman, Thompson, Ebden, Sharma, Hives, Birrell and Barty – but how many of them will progress to the third round?

Tiafoe v Anderson over 37.5 total games @ $1.83

The pair have met three times with Anderson winning all three, but Tiafoe made him earn it taking a set in two of the three. I feel like this will be a big year for the 20-year-old American, and is primed to take it to the big South African. I expect four sets in this including a tie-break at some point, so with this in mind I’m expecting the 37.5 total game line to be cleared with ease. I also really like the value of Tiafoe in this in the head to heads market at $4.50 – more than capable of pulling off an upset here!

Nadal v Ebden under 33.5 total games @ $1.87

He hurt us on Day 1 beating Duckworth in 31 games, going overs by 0.5. I expect Nadal to improve as the tournament goes on, and was far below his best in the opening round and still manager a 6-4 6-3 7-5 win. Ebden is much better quality than Duckworth, so expect Nadal to take this one to the next level winning in straight sets again, and in under 33.5 total games.

Reilly Opelka first set 7-6 @ $3.75

The 7-foot American knocked off John Isner in the first round – the score, 7-6 7-6 6-7 7-6. He’s very hard to break, and not great at breaking serve. Expect a first set tie-break against Thomas Fabbiano, where he’ll get it done at the nice price of $3.75.

Caroline Garcia (-5.5) @ $2.10

The Frenchwoman cleared this line in the first round against much better opposition with a 6-2 6-3 win. She takes on young Australian Zoe Hives in the second round, ranked 225 in the world. Even though she’ll have plenty of home crowd support in this, she’s no match for the world number 19 Garcia, with her highest ranking being 4 in the world.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich @ $1.83

She’s ticking all the boxes for me, and pre-tournament predicted her to make a run into the second week of the Australian Open! Was great at Brisbane reaching the Quarter Final including a win over Elina Svitolina, and then backed it up in Sydney reaching the Semi Final going down to Petra Kvitova. In the opening round she proved she’s far from tired with a 6-1 6-1 win, and now faces Estonian Anett Kontaveit. Although a quality match-up, I think the power of the Belarusian will be too good and like the $1.83 on offer.

Yulia Putintseva @ $2.18

A Quarter Finalist at Roland Garros in 2018, the 24-year-old Kazakh had an impressive straight sets win in the first round against veteran Barbora Strycova. She now takes on Belinda Bencic who she holds a 2-0 record against over their career. Putintseva came into the Australian Open in good form, reaching the Quarters in Sydney which included a win over Sloane Stephens, and is ranked inside the top 40 in the world.
