Chance for Shakhtar put pressure on group favourites 
The result of this game will shape the future ambitions of these two teams. 
 
Should Feyenoord claim their first win in Group F, they will be right back in the hunt for a Europa League place, even if the knockout stages of the Champions League will probably be beyond them. Shakhtar can be more ambitious. Having pulled off a shock to beat the Serie A leaders Napoli in the opening game, another win would put them in a strong position. 
 
The Ukranians are currently topping their own domestic league. They have only lost twice all season and their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League can be viewed positively when you consider the thrashings that Pep Guardiola's side have dished out to other sides in recent week. 
 
Feyenoord are in less impressive form. Third in the Eredivisie, Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team have only won one of their last four games and suffered a disappointing home draw against PEC Zwolle at the weekend.

Shakhtar are the favourites at 2.30, with the draw at 3.65 and Feyenoord priced at 3.35. 
 
Although Shakhtar have to be favoured their price is just a little too slim considering that they have only won one of their last three away games.

No pressure on centurion Zidane 
If Real Madrid are under pressure after a less-than-commanding start to the season, no one told Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman, a picture of tranquility since taking one of football's most fraught jobs in January 2016, has continued to cut an ice-cool figure in the dugout despite his side's failure to hit top gear. 
 
He has reason to trust his convictions, of course: Saturday's game against Getafe, settled late on by Cristiano Ronaldo, was Zidane's 100th in charge of Los Merengues. Madrid have won 75 of them, claiming seven trophies in the process, so while there is plenty of room for improvement on recent displays, there is also plenty of credit remaining in the bank. 
 
The Champions League has been a release valve in recent weeks, with a simple victory over APOEL followed by Madrid's best performance of the season away to Borussia Dortmund. Now they have the chance to take command of Group H in a game that should feature Isco and Luka Modrić - both of whom were rested at the weekend - from the start. The return of Karim Benzema is also a big boost in attack. 
 
Litmus test for Tottenham's European hopes 
At the fourth time of asking, Spurs popped their Premier League cherry at Wembley this weekend. The 1-0 defeat of Bournemouth probably won't live long in the memory, but it did at least clear away one mental barrier before a tricky run of fixtures that sees Mauricio Pochettino's side face Real Madrid (twice), Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund in the next five weeks. 
 
There should be no great fear factor ahead of a trip to the Spanish capital, two solid wins having got Tottenham off to the perfect start in Europe. Yet it's hard not to view this match as an early Litmus test for their hopes of going deep into the competition: Madrid are a far more savvy side than Dortmund and will not want to let first place in the group of out their grasp. 
 
Pochettino will be hoping that Ben Davies, one of the side's standout players either side of the summer break, will have recovered from illness to line up on the left flank at the Bernabéu. Dele Alli remains suspended, although Jan Vertonghen is free to play after being banned for the trip to APOEL. 
 
Madrid a tough cookie to crack 
Madrid's Champions League record on home soil has been imperious in recent years: since being turned over by AC Milan in October 2009, they have lost just two and drawn five of 45 games at the Bernabéu. And 2009 was also the last time Real lost to an English side (4-0 to Liverpool), with the intervening years bringing seven wins and three draws. It is no great surprise, then, that the hosts are 1.45 favourites here. 
 
Spurs lost 4-0 on their last visit to this stadium and while the current XI is several cuts above the one Harry Redknapp fielded that night in 2011, this is still a side feeling its way into the Champions League. Recent away form has been excellent - five wins from five in all competitions - but Newcastle, Everton West Ham, APOEL and Huddersfield hardly provided a stiff examination. 
 
Madrid's league form has been shaky, but their ruthless display in Dortmund would seem to be a better guide for us here: in a one-off game in this competition, this is a side that simply gets things done. The odds on the straight home win may not hold huge appeal, though, so it may be worth considering the goals markets to sweeten the deal... 
 
Goals not guaranteed 
All four Champions League games involving these sides have gone over 2.5 goals, and Madrid's defensive frailties always bring the Both Teams to Score market into the equation. Yet this should be a less frantic affair than the games involving Dortmund: Spurs are excellent defensively, for a start, and would likely be more than happy with a draw, meaning their outlook may be circumspect at the outset. 
 
Throw in the fact that Madrid's attack has yet to fully cut loose this term and there's a good argument for being sniffy about the prospect of a goal fest. Under 2.5 goals tempts at [2.85] but under 3.5 is the safer option at reasonable odds of 1.79. 
 
Kane the man for Spurs 
Spurs may be up against it in terms of the result, but there's no reason to think Harry Kane won't have some joy against a patched-up Madrid backline. The striker has scored seven goals in his last three away games for Spurs and can be backed at around 2.50.

Premier League : City just 2/5 for title after yet another Etihad romp

After a day which saw four of their main title rivals drop points Manchester City are now long odds-on for the title after a quite brilliant display against Stoke on Saturday. Mike Norman rounds-up the weekend action... 
 
Manchester City have shortened to 1.43 in the Premier League Winner market after hitting Stoke for seven in a performance that Pep Guardiola described as probably the best he'd seen under his management. 
 
With Sergio Aguero on the bench having recovered from his recent rib injury City had plenty in reserve if needed but that was never going to be the case from the moment Gabriel Jesus put the home side in front in the 17th minute. Raheem Sterling quickly made it two before David Silva added a third approaching the half hour mark. 
 
To their credit Stoke did threaten to get back into the game when they scored either side of the interval, but being pegged back to 3-2 just pushed Guardiola's men into overdrive, with the quite brilliant Kevin De Bruyne pulling all the strings. 
 
The Belgian midfielder produced two scintillating passes to set up Jesus for his second goal and Leroy Sane to tap home, while Fernandinho's thunderbolt and a first goal for the club by Bernardo Silva completed the rout. 
 
Man City have always been title favourites but this is the first time they have moved to such a short odds-on price having been matched at a high of 3.70 earlier in the season. Guardiola's men remain unbeaten this term and have a two point cushion over their Manchester rivals at the top of the table. 
 
 
Chasing pack slip up... bar Tottenham 
The eagerly anticipated Liverpool versus Manchester United clash produced yet another goalless draw with Jose Mourinho's men failing to get on the front foot for a second season running at Anfield, and seemingly settle for a draw from an early stage. 
 
Liverpool undoubtedly had the better chances with David De Gea being much the busier of the two goalkeepers, producing one excellent reaction save to prevent Joel Matip from putting the home side in front. Romelu Lukaku squandered an excellent chance at the other end but the game looked destined to end goalless long before it actually did. 
 
United - 5.90 second favourites in the Winner market - will be much happier with the result and trail Man City by just points in the title race, while Jurgen Klopp's men are now down in eighth, fully nine points off the lead and available to back at 55.00 to win the title. 
 
It was a poor day for both Chelsea and Arsenal as they both lost out by a scoreline of 2-1 in London derbies to Crystal Palace and Watford respectively. 
 
Wilfried Zaha, making his first start of the season, was the architect behind Palace's first league win of the campaign, while a stoppage-time Tom Cleverley goal condemned the Gunners to yet another away defeat. 
 
Like Liverpool, both Chelsea, 24.00, and Arsenal, 75.00, trail leaders Man City by nine points in the table and already look to have a mountain to climb to get back into the title race. 
 
Tottenham yet again dominated a league game at Wembley but thankfully for them this time they got that all important win thanks to a second half Christian Eriksen goal. 
 
The Lilywhites had over 70% possession and registered no fewer than 18 shots at goal, six on target, yet needed a world class Hugo Lloris save from Bournemouth's only shot on target to seal the three points. 
 
Spurs are third in the table, five points behind the leaders, and are available to back at 15.50 to be crowned champions. 
 
 
Top 4 Finish market hotting up 
With Man City, 1.01, and Man United, 1.13, already looking strong contenders to finish inside the top four this season the remaining two places look up for grabs. 
 
Tottenham, 1.57, also look like being right there until the death and could still mount a serious title challenge if they become more consistent at Wembley, but all three of Chelsea, 1.52, Liverpool, 2.16, and Arsenal, 3.15, need to become far more consistent if they are to climb the table. 
 
And what about Watford? The Hornets have been the surprise package so far this season and currently occupy a top four berth after eight league games. Marco Silva's men remain big outsiders in the market however, available to back at 38.00. 
 
 
Terriers the new favourites to go down 
At the other end of the table the Relegation market became an even bigger puzzle to solve after Palace's first win of the season, while none of their main market rivals could secure a victory. 
 
The Eagles are 2.32 to go down, but it's Huddersfield, who lost at Swansea on Saturday, who are now the 1.75 favourites for the drop. A draw for Brighton against Everton was creditable but Chris Hughton's men are sill fancied to go down at 2.30, while Bournemouth and Swansea can both be backed at around the 2.70 mark.

Leicester looking to climb the table 
The Foxes go into this game sitting uncomfortably in the relegation zone, but such is the tight nature of the bottom half of the table a win for Craig Shakespeare's men will see them leapfrog no less than six clubs into 12th. 
 
There's no denying that Leicester's start to the season has been slightly disappointing but I think Jose Mourinho was spot on when talking about their, and Everton's, early-season fixtures, claiming that he would have found it hard not to complain if his club had been given such a gruelling fixture list. 
 
Four of Leicester's first six games of the season were against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United, and while they lost all four they performed with credit in each game, losing by just a single goal in three of those defeats and by two late goals in the other. 
 
Shakespeare's men are unbeaten in their other five games this term, three in the league and two in the EFL Cup, and they'll see this East v West Midlands clash as a perfect opportunity to kick-start their season. 
 
Jamie Vardy has recovered from a minor hip problem that caused him to miss out on England duty, and both Wilfred Ndidi and Ben Chilwell are also back to full fitness, though defender Robert Huth and midfielder Matty James remain sidelined. 
 
 
Albion still unbeaten at the King Power 
The Baggies went into the weekend in the top half of the table thanks largely to an excellent August when they won two, and drew one, of their three Premier League matches while also progressing to the next round of the EFL Cup. 
 
But since that good start Tony Pulis' men have failed to win any of their last six games in all competitions, drawing all three of their league home games and suffering away defeats to Brighton and Arsenal. They performed very well in the defeat at the Emirates, but squandering a two-goal lead at home to Watford just before the international break will have hurt massively. 
 
However, Pulis could perhaps not have wished for a better fixture to switch back on the concentrations levels than this Midlands derby in which West Brom have a stunning record. The Baggies are unbeaten at the home of the Foxes since 1994, winning six and drawing two of their last eight league and cup visits to Leicester. 
 
Nacer Chadli, James Morrison and Hal Robson-Kanu are all fitness doubts ahead of the trip to the King Power Stadium with the former the most likely to be absent with a back problem. 
 
 
Over-priced Baggies worth chancing 
When you don't have a strong opinion on who will come out on top, simply because you find it hard to split the teams, then it's probably a good idea to go with the side that's trading at the bigger price. It's even better to go with that side when they have a brilliant head-to-head record in this fixture. 
 
That team of course is West Brom, who can be backed at 4.50 despite sitting some eight places above their Midlands rivals and never losing at the King Power Stadium, and never losing away to Leicester for over 20 years. 
 
The Foxes are available to back at 2.00 with the Draw at 3.50, but it's hard to have confidence in Shakespeare's men after taking just five points from their opening seven league games, regardless of how tough some of those fixtures were. 
 
Unless Riyad Mahrez can weave his magic - and there's been no sign of it so far this term - then Leicester's greatest weapon is hitting teams on the break and finding space behind the opposition defence. There probably isn't a better manager in the game at setting a team up to nullify such a threat than Pulis. 
 
Not only that, it's simply impossible to ignore West Brom's excellent record away to Leicester. There's no obvious reason why it's so good, but it's there in black and white and at the prices Albion have to be backed to maintain it. 
 
 
History suggests goals likely 
I'm not a huge fan of head-to-head results when looking for a potential wager; what happened last season or the season before with completely different line-ups and/or managers should theoretically have no bearing on what happens now. But sometimes it does, and in derby matches it can often be worth a second glance. 
 
And down the years this fixture has been quite bizarre. Leicester win at West Brom, West Brom win at Leicester. 
 
The Foxes have triumphed at the Hawthorns in four of their last five visits with the scorelines reading 1-3, 3-0, 2-3, 2-3, and 0-1. While at the home of Leicester the Baggies have won five of the last six, the scorelines reading 1-2, 1-2, 1-4, 0-1, 2-2, and 1-2. 
 
That's a total of 37 goals scored in the last 11 meetings between these two - an average of 3.36 goals per game - with nine of those matches paying out on Over 2.5 Goals. Again, there's no obvious reason why goals are always scored in this fixture, but by the same token there's no obvious reason why it won't continue and a price of 2.20 about witnessing at least three goals again looks fair to me.

Chance for Shakhtar put pressure on group favourites
The result of this game will shape the future ambitions of these two teams.

Should Feyenoord claim their first win in Group F, they will be right back in the hunt for a Europa League place, even if the knockout stages of the Champions League will probably be beyond them. Shakhtar can be more ambitious. Having pulled off a shock to beat the Serie A leaders Napoli in the opening game, another win would put them in a strong position.

The Ukranians are currently topping their own domestic league. They have only lost twice all season and their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League can be viewed positively when you consider the thrashings that Pep Guardiola's side have dished out to other sides in recent week.

Feyenoord are in less impressive form. Third in the Eredivisie, Giovanni van Bronckhorst's team have only won one of their last four games and suffered a disappointing home draw against PEC Zwolle at the weekend.

Place cautious bet on away win
Shakhtar are the favourites at 2.30, with the draw at 3.65 and Feyenoord priced at 3.35.

Although Shakhtar have to be favoured their price is just a little too slim considering that they have only won one of their last three away games.

The 1.66 on offer in the Draw No Bet market is a safer option, while if you're looking to take a chance, the half-time/full-time double result at 3.70 is a worthwhile bet for a side that have been leading at half-time in each of their last four victories.

The Daily Acca: La Liga fixture to be high-scoring

There were some hugely important fixtures at the top of Serie A this weekend and there's one almost as crucial today - this time at the other end of the table.

Hellas Verona were promoted following their second placed finish in Serie B last term, but they have struggled back in the top flight - taking just three points from their opening seven games - and they are yet to win.

In fairness to Fabio Pecchia's men, their four defeats were against Napoli, Fiorentina, Roma and Lazio, so it's not like they have enjoyed the kindest run of fixtures - and they did win in the Coppa Italia.

Opponents, Benevento, are also new to the top flight as they managed to get promoted via the Play-offs. They have really struggled in this division as they have played seven and lost seven. Away from home their three defeats come to an aggregate scoreline of 10-1, and they were even beaten by Crotone.

Bet 2: Back Over 2.5 Goals in Las Palmas v Celta Vigo @ 8/11 - KO 20:00 BST

The hosts come into this La Liga fixture on the back of three straight defeats. That run of results has seen them drop into the relegation zone, although they could go as high as 12th with a victory tonight.

Celta Vigo are in 13th, and while they are only two points better off, they are in much better form. Juan Carlos Unzué's men are unbeaten in three, having drawn two home games and won at Eibar.

During that run they scored eight goals, including two by new Uruguayan signing, Max Gomez. He now has five league goals to his name, and that will be putting the pressure on Iago Aspas who is yet to find the net.

Las Palmas' matches are averaging 2.57 goals each time and they have conceded seven in three outings on this ground this year. The visitors have a much higher average at the 3.43 mark, and all three of their away games have seen this selection land.

Bet 3: Back BTTS in Leicester v West Brom @ 19/20 - KO 20:00 BST

There is always a common misconception that West Brom don't score very often, and while it can be said that their total goals tally isn't huge, they do tend to find the net at least once in most games.

Looking at their Premier League away matches we can see that since the beginning of last season, they have scored in 14 of their 22 road trips - and three of the blanks were while they were on the beach in the last couple of months of last year.

Leicester could really do with a victory tonight as while they haven't been terrible this season, they haven't been picking up enough points. Craig Shakespeare's side are now in the relegation zone and they have conceded five goals in their last two Premier League games at the King Power.

In the calendar year of 2016, these two teams met twice on this ground and the outcomes were a 2-1 win for West Brom and a 2-2 draw. I'm not sure which way the result will go this time, but I'm convinced that there will be goals at both ends.

Real Madrid v Tottenham: Streetwise hosts may shade tight encounter

No pressure on centurion Zidane
If Real Madrid are under pressure after a less-than-commanding start to the season, no one told Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman, a picture of tranquility since taking one of football's most fraught jobs in January 2016, has continued to cut an ice-cool figure in the dugout despite his side's failure to hit top gear.

He has reason to trust his convictions, of course: Saturday's game against Getafe, settled late on by Cristiano Ronaldo, was Zidane's 100th in charge of Los Merengues. Madrid have won 75 of them, claiming seven trophies in the process, so while there is plenty of room for improvement on recent displays, there is also plenty of credit remaining in the bank.

The Champions League has been a release valve in recent weeks, with a simple victory over APOEL followed by Madrid's best performance of the season away to Borussia Dortmund. Now they have the chance to take command of Group H in a game that should feature Isco and Luka Modrić - both of whom were rested at the weekend - from the start. The return of Karim Benzema is also a big boost in attack.

Litmus test for Tottenham's European hopes
At the fourth time of asking, Spurs popped their Premier League cherry at Wembley this weekend. The 1-0 defeat of Bournemouth probably won't live long in the memory, but it did at least clear away one mental barrier before a tricky run of fixtures that sees Mauricio Pochettino's side face Real Madrid (twice), Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund in the next five weeks.

There should be no great fear factor ahead of a trip to the Spanish capital, two solid wins having got Tottenham off to the perfect start in Europe. Yet it's hard not to view this match as an early Litmus test for their hopes of going deep into the competition: Madrid are a far more savvy side than Dortmund and will not want to let first place in the group of out their grasp.

Pochettino will be hoping that Ben Davies, one of the side's standout players either side of the summer break, will have recovered from illness to line up on the left flank at the Bernabéu. Dele Alli remains suspended, although Jan Vertonghen is free to play after being banned for the trip to APOEL.

Madrid a tough cookie to crack
Madrid's Champions League record on home soil has been imperious in recent years: since being turned over by AC Milan in October 2009, they have lost just two and drawn five of 45 games at the Bernabéu. And 2009 was also the last time Real lost to an English side (4-0 to Liverpool), with the intervening years bringing seven wins and three draws. It is no great surprise, then, that the hosts are 1.45 favourites here.

Spurs lost 4-0 on their last visit to this stadium and while the current XI is several cuts above the one Harry Redknapp fielded that night in 2011, this is still a side feeling its way into the Champions League. Recent away form has been excellent - five wins from five in all competitions - but Newcastle, Everton West Ham, APOEL and Huddersfield hardly provided a stiff examination.

Madrid's league form has been shaky, but their ruthless display in Dortmund would seem to be a better guide for us here: in a one-off game in this competition, this is a side that simply gets things done. The odds on the straight home win may not hold huge appeal, though, so it may be worth considering the goals markets to sweeten the deal...

Goals not guaranteed
All four Champions League games involving these sides have gone over 2.5 goals, and Madrid's defensive frailties always bring the Both Teams to Score market into the equation. Yet this should be a less frantic affair than the games involving Dortmund: Spurs are excellent defensively, for a start, and would likely be more than happy with a draw, meaning their outlook may be circumspect at the outset.

Throw in the fact that Madrid's attack has yet to fully cut loose this term and there's a good argument for being sniffy about the prospect of a goal fest. Under 2.5 goals tempts at [2.85] but under 3.5 is the safer option at reasonable odds of 1.79.

Kane the man for Spurs
Spurs may be up against it in terms of the result, but there's no reason to think Harry Kane won't have some joy against a patched-up Madrid backline. The striker has scored seven goals in his last three away games for Spurs and can be backed at around 2.50.

Premier League : City just 2/5 for title after yet another Etihad romp

After a day which saw four of their main title rivals drop points Manchester City are now long odds-on for the title after a quite brilliant display against Stoke on Saturday. Mike Norman rounds-up the weekend action...

Manchester City have shortened to 1.43 in the Premier League Winner market after hitting Stoke for seven in a performance that Pep Guardiola described as probably the best he'd seen under his management.

With Sergio Aguero on the bench having recovered from his recent rib injury City had plenty in reserve if needed but that was never going to be the case from the moment Gabriel Jesus put the home side in front in the 17th minute. Raheem Sterling quickly made it two before David Silva added a third approaching the half hour mark.

To their credit Stoke did threaten to get back into the game when they scored either side of the interval, but being pegged back to 3-2 just pushed Guardiola's men into overdrive, with the quite brilliant Kevin De Bruyne pulling all the strings.

The Belgian midfielder produced two scintillating passes to set up Jesus for his second goal and Leroy Sane to tap home, while Fernandinho's thunderbolt and a first goal for the club by Bernardo Silva completed the rout.

Man City have always been title favourites but this is the first time they have moved to such a short odds-on price having been matched at a high of 3.70 earlier in the season. Guardiola's men remain unbeaten this term and have a two point cushion over their Manchester rivals at the top of the table.

Chasing pack slip up... bar Tottenham
The eagerly anticipated Liverpool versus Manchester United clash produced yet another goalless draw with Jose Mourinho's men failing to get on the front foot for a second season running at Anfield, and seemingly settle for a draw from an early stage.

Liverpool undoubtedly had the better chances with David De Gea being much the busier of the two goalkeepers, producing one excellent reaction save to prevent Joel Matip from putting the home side in front. Romelu Lukaku squandered an excellent chance at the other end but the game looked destined to end goalless long before it actually did.

United - 5.90 second favourites in the Winner market - will be much happier with the result and trail Man City by just points in the title race, while Jurgen Klopp's men are now down in eighth, fully nine points off the lead and available to back at 55.00 to win the title.

It was a poor day for both Chelsea and Arsenal as they both lost out by a scoreline of 2-1 in London derbies to Crystal Palace and Watford respectively.

Wilfried Zaha, making his first start of the season, was the architect behind Palace's first league win of the campaign, while a stoppage-time Tom Cleverley goal condemned the Gunners to yet another away defeat.

Like Liverpool, both Chelsea, 24.00, and Arsenal, 75.00, trail leaders Man City by nine points in the table and already look to have a mountain to climb to get back into the title race.

Tottenham yet again dominated a league game at Wembley but thankfully for them this time they got that all important win thanks to a second half Christian Eriksen goal.

The Lilywhites had over 70% possession and registered no fewer than 18 shots at goal, six on target, yet needed a world class Hugo Lloris save from Bournemouth's only shot on target to seal the three points.

Spurs are third in the table, five points behind the leaders, and are available to back at 15.50 to be crowned champions.

Top 4 Finish market hotting up
With Man City, 1.01, and Man United, 1.13, already looking strong contenders to finish inside the top four this season the remaining two places look up for grabs.

Tottenham, 1.57, also look like being right there until the death and could still mount a serious title challenge if they become more consistent at Wembley, but all three of Chelsea, 1.52, Liverpool, 2.16, and Arsenal, 3.15, need to become far more consistent if they are to climb the table.

And what about Watford? The Hornets have been the surprise package so far this season and currently occupy a top four berth after eight league games. Marco Silva's men remain big outsiders in the market however, available to back at 38.00.

Terriers the new favourites to go down
At the other end of the table the Relegation market became an even bigger puzzle to solve after Palace's first win of the season, while none of their main market rivals could secure a victory.

The Eagles are 2.32 to go down, but it's Huddersfield, who lost at Swansea on Saturday, who are now the 1.75 favourites for the drop. A draw for Brighton against Everton was creditable but Chris Hughton's men are sill fancied to go down at 2.30, while Bournemouth and Swansea can both be backed at around the 2.70 mark.

Spurs fly to Madrid hoping perhaps to put in a performance like they did that night in Milan. The Santiago Bernabeucould be for Harry Kane what San Siro was for Gareth Bale. Deliver here and Tottenham's striker will ascend to a new, even greater status.

Tottenham are a better team than they were in 2010. But as holders this Real Madrid are better than that Inter. Last season's Champions League triumph, Madrid's third in four years, felt like the beginning of a cycle, not the end. Inter were at the end. An old team that had achieved everything without the same manager, nor motivation.

Spurs lost on the night although Bale's second half hat-trick didn't half scare Inter and laid the foundations for a memorable win at White Hart Lane later in the year. Bale's form soon earned a move to the Bernabeu. Disappointingly for him, the Welshman is not fit to face his old team and has been eclipsed by Isco over the last year. Isco came off the bench and essentially won the game for the Spanish champions in Getafe, setting up Cristiano Ronaldo, who netted his first league goal of the season.

With the exception of their performances in San Sebastian and Dortmund, Madrid haven't been totally convincing this season. Not since the Super Cups anyway. Betis won at the Bernabeu and Tottenham's impeccable form on the road this season means there are grounds for optimism. Madrid have tended to be a complacent in the group stages in each of the last two years. They finished runners' up to Dortmund last season and had spells behind to Sporting at home and Legia Warsaw in Poland.

The problem for Spurs is we have seen no such instances in the Champions League this term. Spurs are available on Double Chance @ 3.05.

Manchester City v Napoli

Watching Manchester City at the weekend left a lot of people thinking this team has what it takes to maybe even win the treble. The Citizens are the most prolific team in Europe right now and have scored more goals than any English team at this stage of a season since Everton in 1894.

Under Pep, City look good value to win the Champions League @ 8.80 and are also available as a first time winner @ 2.52. But we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. On Tuesday night, Guardiola says City will play "one of the three or four or five best teams, playing football and in results" in Europe. He's talking about Napoli.

The Partenopei are the only side to have made a perfect start to the season in Europe's top five leagues, winning all eight of their games in Serie A. They too are breaking goalscoring records. Napoli went into Saturday's game with Roma, averaging more goals per game than any side in Europe, including City.

"I encourage you and the fans to come next Tuesday because they will watch an amazing game," Guardiola said. "Two teams with the same idea, high pressing, win the ball (high), short passes, dynamic in front. I'm pretty sure it will be a good game and I am very pleased to face one of the coaches I admire more (in Maurizio Sarri)."

Sarri doesn't have the resources or players Arrigo Sacchi did at Milan or Guardiola does today. But his outlook on football and the orchestral style of football his teams play has drawn comparisons with both. This double-header is the must-see tie of the fortnight.

Monaco v Besiktas

It was entirely logical to expect Monaco to encounter some difficulty after losing five of their first team players in the summer. Leonardo Jardim is on his third rebuilding job as Monacomanager and despite a better than expected start to the season, it's becoming clear that the current side is a work-in-progress.

Friday's 3-2 defeat to Lyon was Monaco's fourth in all competitions and while Fabinho and Radamel Falcao were absent, the player the French champions are missing most is Bernard Mendy. Left-back has become a problem position since his sale.

The mistakes Jorge is making in the role are what you might reasonably expect from a 21-year-old still learning his trade. Terence Kongolo hasn't convinced either for the moment and we might end up seeing Djibril Sidibe swap sides while the two summer signings figure it out.

The uncertainty in defence hasn't helped veteran goalkeeper Danijel Subasic, although in truth, he has no one to blame but himself for Lyon's winner, a more than saveable Nabil Fekir 94th minute free-kick. Subasic has been carrying an ankle injury and says he isn't yet 100% fit, which might persuade Jardim to replace him with Diego Benaglio for Tuesday's match against Besiktas.

The Turkish champions stumbled to a shock defeat at Genclerbirligi on Friday and fell eight points behind Galatasaray in the Super Lig. You wonder, as with Monaco, if the game came too soon after the international break. Whether that was the case or not, Jardim will surely not make the mistake of underestimating the Black Eagles. Besiktas have built on last year's experience in the Champions League and are on maximum points at the top of the group after wins against Porto and RB Leipzig.

Intent on leaving a mark on this competition, they will be confident of upsetting Monaco particularly after wins in Naples and Oporto over the last year. Senol Gunes' side are worth a punt on Double Chance @ 2.36.

Leicester v West Brom: Baggies hard to ignore at the prices

Leicester looking to climb the table
The Foxes go into this game sitting uncomfortably in the relegation zone, but such is the tight nature of the bottom half of the table a win for Craig Shakespeare's men will see them leapfrog no less than six clubs into 12th.

There's no denying that Leicester's start to the season has been slightly disappointing but I think Jose Mourinho was spot on when talking about their, and Everton's, early-season fixtures, claiming that he would have found it hard not to complain if his club had been given such a gruelling fixture list.

Four of Leicester's first six games of the season were against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United, and while they lost all four they performed with credit in each game, losing by just a single goal in three of those defeats and by two late goals in the other.

Shakespeare's men are unbeaten in their other five games this term, three in the league and two in the EFL Cup, and they'll see this East v West Midlands clash as a perfect opportunity to kick-start their season.

Jamie Vardy has recovered from a minor hip problem that caused him to miss out on England duty, and both Wilfred Ndidi and Ben Chilwell are also back to full fitness, though defender Robert Huth and midfielder Matty James remain sidelined.

Albion still unbeaten at the King Power
The Baggies went into the weekend in the top half of the table thanks largely to an excellent August when they won two, and drew one, of their three Premier League matches while also progressing to the next round of the EFL Cup.

But since that good start Tony Pulis' men have failed to win any of their last six games in all competitions, drawing all three of their league home games and suffering away defeats to Brighton and Arsenal. They performed very well in the defeat at the Emirates, but squandering a two-goal lead at home to Watford just before the international break will have hurt massively.

However, Pulis could perhaps not have wished for a better fixture to switch back on the concentrations levels than this Midlands derby in which West Brom have a stunning record. The Baggies are unbeaten at the home of the Foxes since 1994, winning six and drawing two of their last eight league and cup visits to Leicester.

Nacer Chadli, James Morrison and Hal Robson-Kanu are all fitness doubts ahead of the trip to the King Power Stadium with the former the most likely to be absent with a back problem.

Over-priced Baggies worth chancing
When you don't have a strong opinion on who will come out on top, simply because you find it hard to split the teams, then it's probably a good idea to go with the side that's trading at the bigger price. It's even better to go with that side when they have a brilliant head-to-head record in this fixture.

That team of course is West Brom, who can be backed at 4.50 despite sitting some eight places above their Midlands rivals and never losing at the King Power Stadium, and never losing away to Leicester for over 20 years.

The Foxes are available to back at 2.00 with the Draw at 3.50, but it's hard to have confidence in Shakespeare's men after taking just five points from their opening seven league games, regardless of how tough some of those fixtures were.

Unless Riyad Mahrez can weave his magic - and there's been no sign of it so far this term - then Leicester's greatest weapon is hitting teams on the break and finding space behind the opposition defence. There probably isn't a better manager in the game at setting a team up to nullify such a threat than Pulis.

Not only that, it's simply impossible to ignore West Brom's excellent record away to Leicester. There's no obvious reason why it's so good, but it's there in black and white and at the prices Albion have to be backed to maintain it.

History suggests goals likely
I'm not a huge fan of head-to-head results when looking for a potential wager; what happened last season or the season before with completely different line-ups and/or managers should theoretically have no bearing on what happens now. But sometimes it does, and in derby matches it can often be worth a second glance.

And down the years this fixture has been quite bizarre. Leicester win at West Brom, West Brom win at Leicester.

The Foxes have triumphed at the Hawthorns in four of their last five visits with the scorelines reading 1-3, 3-0, 2-3, 2-3, and 0-1. While at the home of Leicester the Baggies have won five of the last six, the scorelines reading 1-2, 1-2, 1-4, 0-1, 2-2, and 1-2.

That's a total of 37 goals scored in the last 11 meetings between these two - an average of 3.36 goals per game - with nine of those matches paying out on Over 2.5 Goals. Again, there's no obvious reason why goals are always scored in this fixture, but by the same token there's no obvious reason why it won't continue and a price of 2.20 about witnessing at least three goals again looks fair to me.
