Sydney FC v Wellington – Thursday 8:00pm
Graham Arnold was not shy is showing his displeasure after Sydney FC and the Glory were forced to play in the boiling heat last week. The teams took the field at 4:30pm local time with the temperature at 34 degrees. It just didn’t make sense – they Wanderers/Phoenix clash should have started at 7:30pm Sydney time which would have allowed for the Sydney/Perth clash to start at 6:30pm local. As a result the players were not able to get into second gear and the fans had to watch a dour 0-0 draw with almost no shot attempts. The Sky Blues are have now gone 3 matches without a win but look to turn that around against a Phoenix side that they have defeated in 6 of the last 8. The temperature hit 37 degrees in Sydney so it could be a case of deja vu. Sydney have been a great Unders team all season long and the Wolf says to follow.
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals ($2.15)
Value Bet: Teams To Score – Sydney Only ($3.20)
Melbourne City v Perth – Friday 7:40pm
Brisbane coach John Aloisi was quick to criticise Melbourne City for a so called negative performance against his Roar side last week. What he seemed to forget was that City worked their way into a winning position after a comical error from keeper Jamie Young allowed Harry Novillo to put City ahead. The class of Henrique cancelled that out and City now look to gather momentum when they host Perth. The Glory have failed to score in their last 4 matches and to go almost a month without finding the back of the net in professional football is unacceptable. Previous meetings will have no bearing on this one – the Glory are down and almost out! The Wolf expects Mooy to dominate in midfield and Fornaroli to continue with his goal scoring spree. City, City, City!
Best Bet: Melbourne City WIN ($1.70)
Value Bet: Team Total – Melbourne City Over 2.5 ($3.30)
Newcastle v Brisbane – Saturday 5:15pm
The Jets hung on by a thread in Adelaide last week and they can thank Mark Birighitti for some wonderful work between the sticks. This week though they face a Brisbane Roar side that sits top of the table and has the second best attack in the A-League. The Roar have been kept scoreless just once this season and that was against Sydney FC in what can only be described as near impossible conditions to play quality football in. Newcaslte go from facing the most ineffective attack one week to the most clinical the next. Brisbane have a league best shot to goal conversion rate of over 20% and have won the last 3 encounters against Newcastle scoring 8 goals along the way. Brisbane have far too many weapons in this one.
Best Bet: Brisbane WIN ($2.00)
Value Bet: HT/FT – Brisbane/Brisbane ($3.00)
Melbourne Victory v Adelaide – Saturday 7:30pm
The juggernaut that is Melbourne Victory continues to roll on. There is no doubt that they are the best team in the country and they have bounced back after the shock loss to the Jets with 5 consecutive wins across all competitions, lifting the FFA Cup and climbing to second on the A-League ladder with a game in hand. A Finkler double was enough to see off the Mariners last week and was yet another indication of how many options they have in attack. Just when the opposition thinks they have Berisha and Barbarouses covered someone else like Finkler steps up. Kevin Muscat has instilled the characteristics that he had as a player into his team – tenacity, ruthlessness and a never say die attitude. It has been 8 meetings since the Reds defeated the Victory and you can be sure that the Champions will not feel sorry for bottom of the table Adelaide – nor will they take them lightly. Adelaide again failed to take their chances last week and are really lacking confidence at the moment. The Wolf admires the efforts of Jeggo but they will need the rest of the side to replicate his efforts. Not this week for Adelaide as Melbourne at home put on a master class.
Best Bet: Melbourne Victory WIN ($1.55)
Value Bet: Handicap Melbourne Victory -1 ($2.35)
Central Coast v Western Sydney – Sunday 5:00pm
The Wanderers mean business this year! Four consecutive wins has seen them climb to 3rd on the ladder just one point off leaders Brisbane. After copping a heap of flack early in the season striker Priovocari has bounced back with goals in back to back matches. Mitch Nichols has been a star for Western Sydney and has proved a critical signing. He has filled the hole that was left when Aaron Mooy left the club and their new defensive line has come together quicker than expected. Jamieson has proved a handful going forward and they have several match winners with Castelen, Vidosic and the ever reliable Mark Bridge. The Mariners have just one win this season but despite being competitive that have been unable to turn it into points. In a very unusual statistic they have scored and conceded in every game this season. We will back both teams to score but the Wanderers to squeeze out a win.
Best Bet: Both Teams To Score – YES ($1.66)
