We didn’t have to wait long for the upsets to begin with Tomas Berdych the first casualty in Doha. We will be hoping for much of the same in Brisbane, in particular in the match between Aussie teenager Alex de Minaur and Milos Raonic. That match will follow the all Australian affair between Kyrgios and Ebden.
ATP Brisbane Feature Previews
Nick Kyrgios v Matthew EbdenThey have hit a tonne of balls with one another on the practice courts but this will be the first meeting on tour between the pair. Kyrgios has looked very comfortable on serve in the doubles while Ebden will be quietly confident after a solid run of results. He won multiple Challenger events last year and his opening round win over Tiafoe was impressive to say the least. This is the type of match which spells trouble for Kyrgios. It is a match he is expected to win but against a fellow countryman The Wolf doesn’t believe he has developed that killer instinct just yet. He can see Ebden forcing at least one breaker which makes the +4.5 start very appealing.
Best Bet: Ebden +4.5 ($1.73)
Alex De Minaur v Milos RaonicWe could have yet another Aussie teenage sensation on our hands with 18 year old Alex De Minaur. A year ago he had wins in Sydney and the Australian Open but failed to win again on the main tour. He is off to a similar start in 2018 following a huge upset win over Steve Johnson in the opening round here. The American was somewhat an ideal opponent leading into the clash with Raonic as he has a similar game built around a big serve and a heavy inside out forehand. Breaking serve has never been a big strength for Raonic and with De Minaur winning almost 80% of points on serve he will be able to keep it close.
Best Bet: Over 21.5 games ($1.80)
