Edmund, Millman and Istomin all did great for us as outsiders yesterday. It was a better day for the seeds at both Brisbane and Doha with Dimitrov, Kyrgios, Thiem and Monfils all still in the respective draws. Who will claim the first titles of the season…
ATP Brisbane Feature Previews
Nick Kyrgios v Alexandr DolgopolovKyrgios had to battle more than his opponent in his last match with a supposed knee injury the latest concern. He managed to play doubles following his come from behind win over countryman Matt Ebden but The Wolf is not sure how his body will hold up. Dolgopolov has quietly made his way through the draw but is set to get plenty of attention. With a suspect injury surrounding Kyrgios he cannot be trusted. As we saw in the opening two set against Ebden he made very little effort to break serve and was happy to go to tiebreakers. We should see more of the same against the Ukranian and that makes Dolgopolov with the starts and a first set breaker huge value.
Best Bet: Dolgopolov +2.5 ($1.85)
Grigor Dimitrov v Kyle EdmundThere have been some great matches already this week in Brisbane but Dimitrov’s win over Millman has to go down as the pick of the bunch. The standard was incredible considering how early in the season we are with the Bulgarian saving multiple match points. The Wolf is adamant that Dimitrov would have lost this match 18 months ago and can thank his improved fitness and physical strength for the win. It allowed him to keep the match alive and his talent was too much in the deciding set. He will be doing more chasing against Edmund, a heavier hitter of the ball than the Aussie. The key shot in this match is the Edmund inside-out forehand. He will look to stretch Dimitrov on the backhand and has been serving well enough to keep him right in the contest. We could see another 3 set thriller.
Best Bet: Over 22.5 games ($1.85)
