HAWTHORN skipper Luke Hodge has been referred directly to the tribunal, while Jordan Lewis has been offered a two-match ban for separate incidents that occurred in Saturday night’s win over North Melbourne.
Hodge will face the tribunal on Tuesday night after the match review panel judged his high hit on North Melbourne counterpart Andrew Swallow as high impact with potential to cause injury and intentional conduct.
The Hawthorn skipper made contact to the face of Swallow with his forearm, which required Swallow to receive medical attention.
Hawks vice-captain Lewis can accept a two-match ban, down from three games with an early plea, after he coathangered ruckman Todd Goldstein late in the fiery opening quarter of Hawthorn’s 60-point win at Etihad Stadium.
The match review panel judged thew incident, which left Goldstein dazed but able to take his shot at goal as a result of the 50m penalty paid as high impact due to its potential to cause serious injury and careless conduct.
If he accepts the early guilt plea, Lewis will miss this Saturday’s clash against the improving GWS at Spotless Stadium and the Round 7 clash against Melbourne at the MCG.
Both Hodge and Lewis’s incidents were assessed and graded by the match review panel under tribunal guideline 4.2(b), where ‘. strong consideration will be given to the potential to cause serious injury’.
Speaking to media on Monday, Hawthorn defender Josh Gibson said incidents such as these involving his teammates are “part of footy” but the Hawks don’t want stars missing matches for undisciplined acts.
