HK v Fjardabyggd
Tuesday July 07, 20:15
Strange things happened in Sweden last night, as our boys Gefle took an early lead but had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Hammarby, a result which saw our stake returned. At half time with the score at 1-1, the hosts were trading at a hefty 4.40 to win, and I still can't fathom why. I'll put Inspector Gadget on the case - he's a safe pair of go-go-Gadget hands, although I suspect his daughter Penny's doing most of the work.
To Iceland, and a second-tier clash between HK and Fjardabyggd (I haven't collapsed onto the keyboard, that's how you spell their name).
Fjardabyggd are playing at this level for the first time since 2010, and they're making a pretty good fist of life at a higher level. They have won six of their first nine games in the 1.Deild, and are third in the standings. It's all pretty impressive when you bear in mind the club was only formed in 2001, when three organisations were rolled in together, and that the eastern area where the club is based has a population of fewer than 5,000 people.
HK are enjoying a second season at this level after winning promotion in 2013, and although they have recovered from a bad start with a couple of recent victories, both came courtesy of stoppage-time winners. Handknattleiksfelag Kopavogs (imagine being their club commentator) have particularly struggled at their Korinn ground, losing three of their four matches in front of their own fans.
Fjardabyggd are the outsiders here at 2.82, and those odds seem generous given the way they've started the campaign. Fjardabyggd have won three of their five away games this term, so there's certainly justification for backing them to take three points.
Even though neither team has actually drawn a game this term, I'd still like to cover that eventuality, so let's back the visitors -0 on the Asian Handicap at [2.05]. An away win still gives us an odds-against winner, and a draw returns our stake.

Recommended Bet
Back Fjardabyggd -0 on the Asian Handicap at [2.05]
