Ponte Preta v Santos
Thursday October 12, 21:00
It's not been our week so far. Last night, Gimnastic Tarragona picked up only their second win of the season, as they stopped Granada's three-match winning run with a 2-0 victory. We move on.
We're making a rare jaunt to Brazil now, as Santos visit Ponte Preta in the top flight.
Santos is one of the most recognisable names in South American football, but the club hasn't sparkled for a while, largely due to consistently losing its best players. Santos haven't won a national league title since 2004, and the last Copa Libertadores success was six years ago.
However, this season the Peixe are third in the table, and only goal difference separates them from second spot. They have only lost two of their last 22 league games, and one of the last 11 on the road. In their last away game they ground out an impressive 1-0 victory at Palmeiras.
Struggling Ponte Preta are in relegation danger, and although they have won seven of their 13 home games, it's worth noting they have lost two of the last three at the Estadio Moises Lucarelli. One of those defeats was against rock-bottom Atletico GO. The She-Monkeys lost the corresponding fixture last year, and in Serie A they have only beaten Santos once in the last six meetings.
The hosts are without midfielder Elton because of suspension, and they also have several players injured. The Match Odds market is pretty much split down the middle, so I'll back the visitors Draw No Bet.
