Jets on fire …
The Newcastle Jets are back. The last five matches in the A-League, plus their Asian Champions League form shows that, and if you needed any more convincing their 2-0 win away to Melbourne Victory was the cherry on top. Dimi Petratos’ goal was a stunner, possibly the best of the season, and The Wolf urges everyone to watch it. The Jets are on the cusp of a finals spot and need to win this one to keep their surge going. It looks like they’ll make it should they sustain this form. The Mariners … well the less said the better. They’ll be condemned to another F3 Derby defeat in this fixture you’d think. They’ve just appointed former Matildas coach Alen Stajcic as caretaker until the end of the season, which should give fans some form of hope.
Recommended Bet: Newcastle Jets to WIN ($1.60)

Wellington Phoeniux (WLDDL) ($2.30) v Western Sydney Wanderers (DLWWD) ($2.85)

Nix need a win.
The Wellington Phoenix have stuttered of late, after a middle part of the season that had a lot of pundits and A-League watchers super impressed. The 8-2 win over Central Coast was an antidote to their previous five weeks which had been a battle. Although those draws were admirable, this week at home they simply need to win. That’s especially pertinent with the Newcastle Jets breathing down their neck, vying for that last finals spot. The Wanderers are back by the way, with only one loss in five. Oriol Riera is important, and has been of late and it will help that German recruit Alex Baumjohann is fit again and playing better, after he promised so much through the pre-season and FFA Cup. However, at home, with their finals spot on the line, the Phoenix will and must win.
Recommended Bet: Wellington to WIN ($2.30)

Sydney FC (WLDWW) ($2.10) v Melbourne City ($3.15) (LDLDD)

Sydney to roll on …
Sydney FC have kind of snuck back into second position. Victory looked to have it but injuries and poor form have cruelled them to allow Sydney back into second spot. They were fantastic against Adelaide last time out and international recruit Reza Ghoochannejhad has made their attack, partnered with Adam le Fondre, look a lot more dangerous. The Iranian striker is a nice foil to the goal prowess of Le Fondre and gives Sydney another dimension in attack. Then there’s City, a team who have won one match in nine, and surrendered a 2-0 lead at home to Perth Glory with ten minutes to play to draw 2-2. How Warren Joyce is still in a job is perplexing, given their record and given the dismal, boring and lifeless soccer they’re displaying.
Recommended Bet: Sydney FC to WIN ($2.10)
