Champions League Draw: All English quarter-final as Spurs face Man City

Tottenham and Manchester City will meet in the last eight of the Champions League while Manchester United must play Barcelona. Liverpool should be pleased to have drawn Porto.

There will be an all English Champions League quarter-final for the second year running when Tottenham take on tournament favourites Manchester City 3.45.

The Premier League clubs were drawn together on Friday morning, at the same time as Manchester United were landed with a tough tie against Barcelona and Liverpool got a much less daunting assignment against Porto.

Can Spurs stop favourites City?

Exchange bettors make City the early favourites to win the tie - Pep's Premier League title favourites likely to go off around the 1.20 mark to make it through the tie.

The first leg will be played at Spurs' new ground. City won the teams' only meeting so far this season, a close-fought 1-0 victory at Wembley in October. Spurs do have some good recent memories to call on - a memorable 2-1 away victory in February 2016 - and they managed a 2-2 draw the following season but it was all City last time out, a 4-1 pummeling in December 2017.

The winner of the tie will meet Barcelona or Manchester United in the semi-finals.

Solskjaer's going back to Barca

Plenty of Manchester United fans will have been horrified when they saw their team get lumped with Barcelona. At 4.80, the Catalans are behind City and Juventus in the tournament winner betting but the aura of Ernesto Valverde's team is still considerable and, even for the first leg at Old Trafford, Barca start as favourites.

Still, United achieved a remarkable result in their second leg against PSG in the previous round. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has fond memories of the Nou Camp, scoring the winner in the Champions League final there 20 years ago, so maybe, just maybe United will come through.

Porto await Liverpool

Liverpool's chances of reaching a second successive semi-final have been boosted by their draw against Porto. The Reds, whose tournament winner odds shortened to 5.60 after the draw, dispatched the Portuguese side 5-0 in the round of 16 last season and start as firm favourites to progress this time.

If Liverpool can get past Porto, Jurgen Klopp's men will face the winner of Ajax v Juventus - a quarter-final that has the ring of a classic European tie and pits youth against experience. The Dutch upstarts stunned Real Madrid in the last round and, while Cristiano Ronaldo and co. are expected to come through this contest, they would be foolish to underestimate this talented Ajax side.
