2020 AFL Round 14 – Tips, Predictions & Odds

Thursday 27/8/20

4:40pm Hawthorn Hawks vs. Essendon Bombers @ Adelaide Oval

Hawthorn looked solid at the start of the season but their form has dipped considerably. They are coming off another loss to the Power and although it was close, it was a disheartening loss.

Essendon is also coming off a loss, losing by 12 points to Richmond. They scored 10 goals and only one behind, but it wasn’t enough against the offensive-minded Tigers.

Bookmakers have Essendon as slight favourites and we give them the edge as well.

Betting tip: Essendon to win @ $1.58

7:10pm Richmond Tigers vs. West Coast Eagles @ Metricon Stadium

Richmond didn’t convert most of their chances at goal against Essendon, but they still came away with the 12-point victory.

Accuracy will be key against a West Coast Eagles team, which did what they needed to do against the GWS Giants last week.

It was a nice defensive effort from the Eagles and that is why they’re getting respect with bookmakers. They are paying $1.92, which is shorter than we expected, but the value is with Richmond at $1.85.

That is a good price for a team hitting their straps at the right time.

Betting tip: Richmond to win @ $1.82

7:50pm Western Bulldogs vs. Geelong Cats @ Metricon Stadium

The Cats are purring after beating the Adelaide Crows 65-37 and although the opposition is poor, it was still a solid effort.

Geelong didn’t capitalise on all their goal-scoring opportunities, which is a problem, but there isn’t much to be worried about.

The Bulldogs were impressive when beating Melbourn 80-52. That win holds them in good stead for this game and we’re liking the head-to-head odds on offer.

Betting tip: Western Bulldogs to win @ $2.45

Saturday 29/8/20

1:45pm Port Adelaide Power vs. Sydney Swans @ Adelaide Oval

Port Adelaide is coming off a 10-point win over Hawthorn and although it wasn’t a superb outing, they got the job done.

The Power needed a boost in confidence after a slight dip in form, so the win will do their confidence plenty of good.

Sydney failed to fire against Fremantle and that’s being nice. They scored only 19 points on 2.7 scoring, which won’t win you any games.

Port Adelaide should take this game comfortably and cover the 26.5-point spread.

Betting tip: Port Adelaide –26.5 @ $1.90

4:35pm Fremantle Dockers vs. GWS Giants @ Optus Stadium

Bookmakers have the Giants as favourites for this clash against Fremantle, but the Dockers must be buzzing following their win.

They scored a 50-19 win over the Sydney Swans and keeping a team to below 20 points is quite some effort. The opposition is harder this week, but the Giants don’t have much confidence at the moment.

The Giants lost to the West Coast Eagles, so the opposition gets easier this week. However, we are siding with the form team.

Betting tip: Fremantle to win @ $2.40

Fremantle by 2

7:40pm Melbourne Demons vs. St Kilda Saints @ TIO Traeger Park

Just when it looked as though Melbourne were making a run, they lose to the Western Bulldogs by 32 points. It was a disappointing effort and they will need to bounce back as underdogs this week.

St Kilda holds the slight edge with bookmakers following their 50-48 loss to the Brisbane Lions. It was a solid effort in defeat and they were a touch unlucky to lose.

We are sticking with Melbourne this week as punters are getting value odds. The $1.98 is value for a team with good potential.

Betting tip: Melbourne to win @ $1.98

Sunday 30/8/20

3:35pm Carlton Blues vs. Collingwood Magpies @ Gabba

Collingwood are the favourites for this game but there is some uncertainty with punters early doors.

The Magpies are only $1.68 favourites and given their Round 12 performance against Melbourne, that could be the reason why.

Carlton is coming off a 60-27 win over the Gold Coast Suns and they get nine days to recover for this game. That is a big bonus and they’ll be fully refreshed.

Value is with Carlton and punters should take the points start.

Betting tip: Carlton +6.5 @ $1.90

Carlton by 8

6:10pm Gold Coast Suns vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos @ Metricon Stadium

The Suns didn’t show much effort against Carlton last week and it’s hard to justify their favouritism with bookmakers.

They are currently paying $1.59 to win and even though they have had plenty of time to rest, they shouldn’t be that firm over a dangerous Kangaroos side.

North Melbourne hasn’t had their best season but this game is essentially a coin flip. We couldn’t confidently back the Suns at that price, so take the value with the Kangaroos.

Betting tip: North Melbourne to win @ $2.30
