2020 NRL Round 14 – Preview, Expert Betting Tips & Odds

Thursday 13/8/20

7:50pm Sydney Roosters vs. Melbourne Storm @ SCG

The Roosters are coming off a solid 24-16 victory over the Dragons last Thursday night and having a full week to prepare is ideal.

Sydney has suffered plenty of injuries this season and they are doing well to sit inside the top four. However, a stiff test against Melbourne could expose those injuries.

Melbourne scored a 41-10 win over the Bulldogs and that was without inspirational captain Cameron Smith, who is likely to miss this week as well.

It won’t be easy for the Storm to win without Smith but covering the spread is well within their grasp.

Betting tip: Storm +7.5 @ $1.90

Friday 14/8/20

6:00pm New Zealand Warriors vs. Penrith Panthers @ Central Coast Stadium

The Warriors scored an upset win over the Manly Sea Eagles last week but it would be an almighty upset this week.

Penrith were simply stunning against Canberra last Saturday and their size advantage was clear to see. It will be apparent again this week against an undersized Warriors outfit.

New Zealand will struggle to cope with players leaving and they could have a key forward missing due to suspension.

Penrith are expected to stay on top of the NRL premiership ladder.

Betting tip: Panthers –16.5 @ $1.90

7:55pm Parramatta Eels vs. St George Dragons @ Bankwest Stadium

After suffering another loss last week, the Dragons are facing an upward battle to make the playoffs.

They looked good for a couple of weeks but recent losses have seen them slip to 12th on the ladder. The Eels currently sit in third position, so they are one of the better teams in the competition.

Parramatta were out-scored in the try department against the Sharks last Sunday, but conversions and a penalty gave them the two-point victory.

The conditions were horrible and if the surface is better on Friday night, expect the Eels to run in a big score over the Dragons.

Betting tip: Eels -10 @ $1.90

Saturday 15/8/20

3:00pm Cronulla Sharks vs. Gold Coast Titans @ Netstrata Jubilee Stadium

The Sharks were a touch unlucky not to win against the Eels last week. They scored three tries but none of them were converted by Shaun Johnson.

It was a crucial loss for the Sharks, who are gripping onto a playoff bearing position in eighth. They will look to get back to their winning ways over the Titans this week.

Gold Coast ran up a big score of 30-10 against the North Queensland Cowboys in Round 13 and that will give them plenty of confidence.

Winning consecutive games isn’t easy for the Titans, however, so stick with the Sharks.

Betting tip: Sharks –10.5 @ $1.90

Sharks by 14

5:30pm North Queensland Cowboys vs. South Sydney Rabbitohs @ Queensland Country Stadium

The Cowboys are having a season they would rather forget after being thrashed by the Titans last week.

Finding traction has been tough for the Cowboys ever since Johnathan Thurston retired. It’s not a good sign going forward and another loss could be on the cards against the Rabbitohs.

South Sydney have been inconsistent this season but they have coming off a 28-10 win over the Broncos and that should give them confidence.

The Rabbits should have too much firepower for a Cowboys team that is running low on confidence.

Betting tip: Rabbitohs -8 @ $1.90

Rabbitohs by 10

7:35pm Canberra Raiders vs. Brisbane Broncos @ GIO Stadium

The Raiders looked like boys against men when playing Penrith last week and they could be false favourites for this game.

Canberra is currently sitting in fifth position on the ladder but they have looked far from quality over the last few weeks.

Brisbane is one of the worst teams in the NRL and we’re not saying that they should be favourites. However, getting 14.5 points is value for punters.

Canberra is struggling to score points so the Broncos could keep this one close.

Betting tip: Broncos +14.5 @ $1.90

Raiders by 2

Sunday 16/8/20

2:00pm Newcastle Knights vs. Manly Sea Eagles @ McDonald Jones Stadium

The Knights returned to form in fine order last week, scoring a 44-4 win over the Wests Tigers.

It was a much-needed win from the Knights, who had been suffering from a drop in confidence after recent poor performances.

Manly, on the other hand, continued their scratchy season with a 26-22 loss to the Warriors, who were down on man power.

The Sea Eagles need to lift to make the playoffs but with confidence returning to the Knights, that could be a tough ask.

Betting tip: Knights -6 @ $1.90

Knights by 10

4:05pm Wests Tigers vs. Canterbury Bulldogs @ Bankwest Stadium

It isn’t quite a Sunday blockbuster as two struggling teams to battle. The Tigers gave up 44 points to the Knights last week and the Bulldogs gave up 41 points to the Storm.

The Tigers are the more talented side and they sit 10th on the table, but the Bulldogs can play with more heart.

Due to both teams being in poor form, we’re going with the Bulldogs to keep it close. We couldn’t confidently pick the Tigers to win by more than six points.

Betting tip: Bulldogs +6.5 @ $1.90

Tigers by 2
