Who will be this weekend's winners and losers in Serie A? Using Expected Goals (xG) data from Infogol, Tom Victor provides result and scoreline predictions as Lazio and Inter get going...

Atalanta to kick off with away win

Torino v Atalanta

Atalanta are in competitive action for the first time since suffering late heartbreak against Paris Saint-Germain in last season's Champions League. They'll be confident of taking all three points against a Torino side without a win in their last six Serie A games, stretching back to mid-July, especially given their 7-0 win in the corresponding fixture last season. Infogol gives the visitors a 53% chance of victory in a game which should produce goals.

Lazio to get off to a winning start

Cagliari v Lazio

Lazio have Champions League football to look forward to after last season's fourth-place finish, but before that they have the start of the domestic season to reckon with. Simone Inzaghi's side begin with a trip to Cagliari, where they needed two late goals to win from behind last season, and Infogol's model puts their chances of victory at 53% with a 59% chance of both sides finding the net.

Promoted Benevento to fall short first time out

Sampdoria v Benevento
Saturday, 17:00
Watch on Betfair Live Video

In a scheduling quirk, Benevento begin their first campaign back in Serie A with the same fixture which began their last season at this level. Things have changed since the 2017/18 campaign, with Pippo Inzaghi now in charge at Stadio Ciro Vigorito, but Infogol makes Sampdoria favourites to take all three points despite being soundly beaten by Juventus last time out.

Inter to have too much for Fiorentina

Inter Milan v Fiorentina
Saturday, 19:45
Watch on Betfair Live Video

Last season's Europa League finalists Inter will be confident of a title push this season after running Juventus close last time out, and they have home advantage in the opener. Giuseppe Iachini's visitors got off to a winning start last weekend, putting in a professional display to keep Torino quiet, but Infogol backs this one to go the way of the Nerazzurri: despite this fixture producing two draws in 2019/20, the game in Milan was dominated by the hosts in xG terms.

Spezia to make losing start to Serie A life

Spezia v Sassuolo
Sunday, 11:30
Watch on Betfair Live Video

Last season's Serie B play-off winners Spezia begin the new season by hosting a Sassuolo side which endured a mixed end to the 2019/20 season. However, with just a 27% chance of victory according to Infogol's model, Vincenzo Italiano's side aren't expected to get off to the best of starts. Sassuolo dominated their opener against Cagliari but left it late to earn a solitary point, so they'll be determined to go one better on Sunday.

Napoli to keep up winning start against Genoa

Napoli v Genoa

Both of these sides began their Serie A season with a win, but Napoli are heavily favoured to make it two from two after keeping Parma quiet first time out. The hosts were held by Genoa at the San Paolo last term in one of Carlo Ancelotti's last games in charge, but under Rino Gattuo they have been given a 71% chance of success against one of last season's strugglers.

Verona to build on opening victory

Verona v Udinese
Sunday, 14:00
Watch on Betfair Live Video

Verona were fortunate to beat Roma first time out, scoring with three of their six shots while their opponents failed to find the net with any of their 14 attempts. While a similar performance against Udinese is unlikely to produce a similar result, Infogol's model anticipates a home win which would require Ivan Jurić's men to score their first league goal against the Friulani since 2015.

Crotone's tough start to continue against Milan

Crotone v AC Milan
Sunday, 17:00
Watch on Betfair Live Video

After putting Bologna to the sword in their opener, Milan will be confident of continuing to post solid xG numbers accompanied by the actual goals that doesn't always produce. Opponents Crotone were very generous to Genoa upon their Serie A return, and Infogol gives the visitors a 60% chance of making it six points from a possible six.

Juve to continue fast start to leave capital with three points

Roma v Juventus
Sunday, 19:45
Watch on Betfair Live Video

Roma and Juventus produced similar performances from an xG perspective last week, but with differing results, and Juve can ride the high of their victory over Sampdoria to earn another win when they travel to the Olimpico. Paulo Fonseca will hope to use his experience against rookie manager Andrea Pirlo, but his team may ultimately fall short against a team who opened up a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes in the corresponding fixture last season.

Bologna to get off the mark on home soil

Bologna v Parma
Monday, 19:45
Watch on Betfair Live Video

After a tough start at the San Siro, Bologna have a chance to get points on the board against a Parma side which also got off to a losing start. Siniša Mihajlović's men threw away a late two-goal lead the last time these sides met, but are 52% to emerge victorious at the Renato Dall'Ara, with Infogol anticipating action at both ends with BTTS and over 2.5 goals both at 60%.
