Football Bet of the Day: Dijon won't cut the mustard

We're heading to France, and Kev believes the surprise Ligue 1 leaders will cement their place at the top.

Leaders to keep pushing

Dijon v Rennes
Friday 16 October, 18:00

Our first slip-up of the week was a frustrating one, as Independiente Santa Fe beat La Equidad 1-0, a result that wasn't quite enough to land our BTTS bet. The visitors were pretty toothless, managing just two goal attempts all evening.

We'll head to France in search of redemption, because in-form Rennes are visiting Dijon tonight, and I fancy the visitors to take another positive step forward.

Rennes are top of the division going into this game, and although they have lost Brazilian winger Raphinha to Leeds United and goalkeeper Edouard Mendy to Chelsea, they have still done some smart business. Striker Sehrou Guirassy has hit the ground running since his move from Angers, Nayef Aguerd looks a good signing in defence, while the acquisition of Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani could prove to be a real coup.

Rennes' best player is one who was already at the club when the transfer window opened. 17-year-old midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is a hugely exciting talent, and he scored an fabulous goal against Ukraine in his first senior start for France, becoming Les Bleus' youngest goalscorer in over a century in the process.

Rennes have won four and drawn two of their Ligue 1 games so far, and they have scored at least twice in all of those matches. Conversely, Dijon are rock-bottom, having collected a solitary point from their first six games. They have already leaked 13 goals, and they have failed to score in two of their three league matches at the Stade Gaston Gerard.

Even though Rennes are odds-on here to take the win at 1.83, I still think they are worth backing against a team that is struggling badly.
