Super Rugby AU Round 4 Predictions

Friday 13/3/21

7:45pm Force vs. Rebels @ HBF Park

We thought the Western Force would get their shot to beat the Waratahs last week and they didn’t disappoint.

It was a closer game than expected, but the 20-16 result gives the Force a much-needed win in the 2020 Super Rugby season.

Since returning to Super Rugby, it was their first win and it could start a winning run. However, the Rebels won’t be easy to beat after two devastating losses.

The Rebels had a kick to beat the Queensland Reds two weeks back but failed to convert. They then had a lead against the 14-man Brumbies, but gave up a try in the dying stages.

Coming back from consecutive losses isn’t easy, especially given the way they lost. However, the Rebels are the more talented team on paper.

Our worry for the Rebels on Friday is travelling to Perth after a loss. It’s a long trip and the Force have had more time to acclimatise.

The Force scored only 20 points against a dismal Waratahs outfit, but wins can work wonders. It should give them enough confidence to kick on with the job and the Rebels are there for the taking.

Bookmakers have the Force as $2.50 underdogs. We wouldn’t recommend taking $1.56 for the Rebels, so that leaves punters with one option.

Take the Force +3.5 for added security. They should keep this game close and playing in Perth could be enough to tip the scales in their favour.

Betting tip: Western Force +3.5 @ $1.97

Saturday 13/3/21

7:45pm Brumbies vs. Reds @ GIO Stadium

Down to 14 men with most of the game to go, the Brumbies called on all their reserves to get past the Melbourne Rebels last week.

It was a gutsy effort from the Brumbies, which showed why they are the defending champions. Despite trailing late in the game, the Brumbies broke through for the try to seal the 27-24 victory.

The Queensland Reds have had plenty of time to prepare after a bye week. They scored a narrow 23-21 victory over the Rebels in Round 2, which was a relatively lucky performance.

They scored with only minutes left then survived a missed penalty goal from the Rebels. However, they are a perfect 2-0 after beating the Waratahs 41-7 in the opening round.

Surviving a close game to the Rebels could help the Reds this season. It showed they’ll need to be better to beat the Brumbies, who are also unbeaten.

The Brumbies got their season off to a winning start against the Force before putting up 61 points on the Waratahs. Those performances are tough to overlook and we’re not surprised at the odds available this week.

Bookmakers have the Brumbies as $1.51 favourites and we can’t disagree with the betting line. The Brumbies haven’t taken a backwards step since winning last season and they should have the Reds covered on Saturday night.

The current line is 5.5 points, which makes it interesting. We think it will be a close game, so take the Brumbies on the head-to-head line.

Betting tip: Brumbies to win @ $1.51
