Central Coast v Melbourne City – Thursday 8:00pm
The Mariners streak of scoring in every game ended in their loss to the Wanderers last weekend and this week they host a red hot Melbourne City. City ran riot on Perth as Aaron Mooy put on a clinic in the 5-1 demolition. His crossing was pin point and his long balls cut the defence apart. Two assists were followed by a much deserved goal and there is no doubting that he is the hottest property in Australian football at the moment. Montgomery and Caceres will have a tough time shutting him down in the centre of the park but there will be some relief with Corey Gameiro missing out through injury. The leagues top scorer Bruno Fornaroli will look to add to his 6 goals as the best attack in the A-League (Melbourne City) look to continue climbing up the ladder. The Mariners have a great record against City losing just one of the last 10 but that came a month ago when City put 3 past them in a comfortable victory. Melbourne City are on a roll at the moment and with the Mariners collecting just 2 points from their last 7 matches Melbourne City at this price are a great bet!
Best Bet: Melbourne City WIN ($1.95)
Value Bet: Team Totals – Melbourne City Over 2.5 goals ($3.50)
Sydney FC v Newcastle Jets – Friday 7:40pm
Despite having lost just once this season, a 4th draw for Sydney FC has seen them fall to 4th on the A-League ladder. The 0-0 draw was their 3rd in 4 games and there is no doubt that the frustration is growing in the Sydney camp. Graham Arnold chose to skip the press conference and send Steve Corica instead and as explained by his assistant he was both disappointed and annoyed at several refereeing decisions – in particular a non penalty call. The recent form of the Sky Blues will give the Jets plenty of confidence. They have conceded just 2 goals in their last 3 matches and have really tightened things at the back with Boogaard and Hoffman leading the way. Sydney simply don’t spread the ball like they used to last season and have become much easier to defend. The tow sides have combined for a total of 17 goals this season which is less than what Melbourne City have scored on their own (18). With 6 of the last 7 meetings going Under The Wolf says to be all over it!
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals ($2.15)
Value Bet: 1st half result – Draw ($2.45)
Wellington v Melbourne Victory – Saturday 5:15pm
Melbourne continue to show their domination and a 4th consecutive win has seen them climb to the top of the ladder. Their rise back to the top has not been all smooth sailing. They have jumped out of the blocks in their last two games taking two goal leads into half time but they have conceded late in both games and hung on for victory late. The Wolf expects to see a similar pattern in this one. Melbourne have won 11 of the last 13 meetings against the Phoenix including back to back 3-0 wins in the two most recent matchups. Slowing down the Victory has proved the toughest task in the A-League. Durante and Sigmund have experience on their side but the Victory have the bit between their teeth. Berisha and Bozanic came off early last week but should be fine while Delpierre should overcome a niggling hamstring. Ernie Merrick will be familiar with several of the Victory players and will be aware that it is more important for them to focus on what they do best and that is to play expansive high tempo football. The Overs is 6-2 in their last 8 and the Wolf has highlighted that as the best bet in this one.
Best Bet: Over 2.5 goals ($1.55)
Value Bet: HT/FT – Melbourne/Melbourne ($3.20)
Western Sydney v Brisbane – Saturday 7:30pm
The resurgence of the Wanderers continues and 5 consecutive wins has them on equal points with the Victory at the top. Its a remarkable effort for a side that had so many off season changes and the key has again been to build from the back. 3 clean sheets in their last 5 has been a huge help but the midfield must also be given credit for tracking back and preventing sides from hitting them on the counter. That will be very important against a Brisbane side that has more than just speed – the Roar has some of the best ball players in the league with Broich and Mackay and a very deep front line that includes MacLaren, Borello and Henrique. Brisbane were 3-1 winners in Round 1 but the Wanderers have improved out of sight since that match. They may be at home but the even money is way too short. There will be nothing between them in this one!
Best Bet: Double Chance – Draw or Brisbane ($1.80)
Value Bet: Draw ($3.50)
Adelaide v Perth – Sunday 5:00pm
In the battle of the cellar dwellers the it is Adelaide who are the more desperate. They are yet to win a game this season and are statistically the worst side in the A-League having scored the least (7) and conceding the most (17). Perth has been stubborn in recent weeks but that all changed against Melbourne City as the flood gates opened in an embarrassing 5-1 defeat. On paper one would say there is little interest in this one but the Wolf disagrees. The fact that both teams need all 3 points makes for a very entertaining encounter and one with a substantial amount of goal scoring chances. Finishing has not been a strong both of either side thus far this season but the defence has been significantly poorer. Perth have scored just one goal from their last three away games. Despite losing Adelaide have been getting the ball of the back of the net. The Wolf is putting his faith in Cirio and Djite but says one chance is all they will be getting. Reds too strong at home!
Best Bet: Adelaide WIN ($1.72)
Value Bet: Over 3.5 goals ($2.75)
