St. George Illawarra Dragons v Canterbury Bulldogs
Sunday, August 26, 4:10pm
Jubilee Oval, Sydney

Recent form

The St. George Illawarra Dragons overturned a poor run of recent form with a 20-10 win against the Wests Tigers in round 23. The Dragons had lost three on the trot prior to that win, which has seen them re-enter the top four. Canterbury have shown renewed vigour late in the season and notched a one-point win against the New Zealand Warriors at ANZ Stadium. Five-eighth Lachlan Lewis slotted a long-range field goal in the final two minutes to give his side a 27-26 win.

Stats That Matter

  • The Dragons (156) concede the least penalties of any side in the competition, with the Dogs conceding the second-least at only 160.
  • The total points have gone under in three of the past five meetings between these two sides.
  • The Dogs make the second fewest linebreaks in the competition and the Dragons are the second-most prolific offloading team in the National Rugby League, behind the New Zealand Warriors.
  • Prior to their win in round 11 this season, St. George had lost its previous six matches against Canterbury.
  • In just seven games for the Dogs, Lachlan Lewis has created five try assists and made four tackle busts.

Final thoughts

The Wolf knows the Dogs have had St. George’s measure in recent years and is all too aware of the Red V’s struggles late in the season. Paul McGregor’s charges turned a corner last weekend through, as they beat an equally desperate Wests Tigers side. There will be a huge crowd on hand at Kogarah to watch the Dragons in this one and they will have too much polish for Canterbury.

How It Shapes Up

St. George by 8.
