After a mixed start to the week, Kev's taking one more swing at securing a winner in the German Cup, as two old foes do battle.

Clash of giants to yield some goals

Kaiserslautern v Nurnberg
Wednesday 30 October, 17:30
The Black Forest gateau left a bad aftertaste last night, as a late collapse from Freiburg saw them tumble out of the DFB Cup, as they lost 3-1 to Union Berlin.
We'll stick with Germany and indeed the DFB Cup, because two big beasts do battle tonight, as Kaiserslautern face Nurnberg.
Kaiserlslautern secured one of the most extraordinary Bundesliga title successes of all time in 1998, as they won the league as a newly-promoted side. Veteran coach Otto Rehhagel (the mastermind of Greece's EURO 2000 triumph) also led FCK to the Champions League quarter-finals. However, just three years after they lifted the Meisterschale, Kaiserslautern were on the brink of bankruptcy. The famed Fritz Walter Stadion was sold off to ease the mounting debts, and after several seasons of flirting with the drop, Kaiserslautern were relegated in 2006.
Lautern are now plying their trade in the third-tier Dritte Liga, and last season they won just 13 of their 38 games at that level. This season, former Nurnberg coach Boris Schommers is trying to wake the sleeping giant, but his team is in the relegation zone, and with 29 goals conceded in just 13 games, it has the second-worst defensive record in the entire league.

Nurnberg, known as "Der Club," dominated German football in the 1920s, winning the league title five times in that decade. They have added four championships since, but FCN haven't been crowned as the top team in Germany since 1968. These days, they are looking to rebuild after suffering relegation from the Bundesliga, and they are currently eighth in the second tier.
I fancy goals in this one. Nurnberg's last four away games in the league have featured a whopping 22 goals, and all four have seen an Over 3.5 Goals bet land. Six of Kaiserslautern's last eight games in the league have featured at least four goals.
You can back Over 3.5 Goals here at 2.98, or you could choose to be a tiny bit more conservative and go for Over 2.5 Goals at 1.84.
