<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What a Friday night fixture this is to kick off round 23. Both teams are playing finals but this game is massive for the Pies a win here and if the Eagles or Tigers lose they will move into 4th spot and secure a vital double chance. The best position the Bombers can finish 7th and they will play their first final against a Giants side who has a lot of injuries. The Bombers have lost a few stars with Stringer, Clarke, Fatasia, Heppell and Zaharakis all ruled out through injury. Worsfold might be resting a few of his stars though knowing they can’t move up or down on the ladder. The Pies have lost arguably their best player in Steele Sidebottom who has been ruled out with a ruptured testicle they welcome back Darcy Moore who is back from a hamstring injury. I think this game is a preview of what the finals are to be, this game will be a bash and crash and both teams will use this atmosphere and pressure to be ready for finals in two weeks time. Tipping the Bombers here they have played very well this year when their backs are against the wall. Bombers by 10 or less.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What a day this will be in Sydney Lance Franklin is back for his 300th game, Kieren Jack and Jarred Mcveigh are playing their last game and a nice touch for the Saints they are playing Sam Rowe who will play his 100th game of AFL. Buddy hasn’t played in 7 weeks since he injured his hamstring playing his old side in the Hawks rumours are that he was ready to go last weekend but was held back and set to be unleashed vs the Saints. Weird little history lesson here Buddy has played his 100th, 200th and 300th all against the Saints. Last time he played against the Saints in his 200th he kicked 10 goals so we might be in for a Buddy show come Saturday. This game is a dead rubber as both teams can’t make the finals but with all these retirements and Buddy 300th this is a game every footy fan should be tuning in for. Swans by 20+

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Last weekend’s result for the Demons confirmed to me that Simon Goodwin has lost the playing group. Losing by 40+ points to a team that is two spots higher than you on the ladder is a disgrace. The way they conducted themselves last weekend was shocking and the board at the Demons should do the right thing in the off season and move Goodwin on. The Kangaroos will be licking their lips to face them this weekend and get another win for their new coach, they were fantastic vs the Power last weekend and Ben Brown might of won himself the coleman medal with a great performance and 10 goals to his name vs the Power. This game is in Tassie and the Kangaroos love getting to their second home and will love nothing more to inflict more pain on Goodwin’s side. Mason Wood has been recalled for the Kangaroos which could be his final game for them as he is being shopped around for a potential trade. Hunt and Preuss are back for the Demons. <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Many will be thinking this game will be a walk in the park for the Cats as they look to secure top spot. Think again the Blues would love nothing more then to knock the Cats off and then the Lions and Eagles could secure a top 2 spot. If the Cats lose this and the Eagles win they will switch positions which could be the worst result for the Cats as they have been on top of the ladder for most of the season. The Cats lost to the Lions last weekend after leading for most of the game but again fell away in the last 10mins and that has been a pattern over the last few weeks. The Blues have found a second wind under David Teague and are playing a fast flowing brand of football. I am so excited to see Patrick Cripps go up against Tim Kelly and Patrick Dangerfield. Cats welcome back Rhys Stanley and Gary Rohan while the Blues welcome back Weitering and Cunningham. I am tipping the Cats to win but wouldn’t be surprised if there was an upset down in Geelong.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Well this could get ugly. First of all congratulations to Touk Miller who plays his 100th game this weekend could have taken the easy road and left the Suns and moved back to Melbourne to chase cash and finals football but has stuck to his word and battled it out on the Sunshine State a credit to him. His side is going to need a lot of luck this weekend to beat the Giants who are under pressure after not kicking goals after half time for two weeks in a row. Jeremy Cameron is a big inclusion and could win the coleman medal so look for him to kick a big bag of goals this weekend. The Suns are tired there is no question about that and are begging for the off season. They have fought hard this year but again the bigger bodies vs the smaller and younger bodies of the Suns have been smashed week in week out. They will want to put in a good final show for their fans but I think this will be another road kill for the Giants and be all over by qtr time. Suns by 70+

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Huge game for the Eagles here a win and a few results go their way they could secure a top 2 spot lose this game and Pies win they could find themselves in fifth spot. While if the Hawks win they could be playing finals football so this game is no dead rubber at all. The Eagles played some unbelievable football last weekend vs the Tigers but when the rain came it ruined their chances of free flowing football. Tom Barrass had his worst game of footy for a long time but he will learn from his mistakes and be better this weekend. The foot skills of the Eagles last weekend were elite and if they can bring that vs the Hawks they will win and win well. The Hawks sent one of their favourite sons off in style last weekend. Roughead kicked 6 goals in a performance everyone was hoping for a man who gave so much to his club for so many years it was a pleasure to watch. The man he is he dropped himself for this game to give someone else a go. Eagles lose Hutchings and drop Rotham recall Masten and Duggan. Hawks bring in Howe and Scrimshaw drop Roughead and Jiath. <span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What a game the town of Ballarat has installed both teams fighting for that final spot in the eight. This game is going to be huge. The Dogs have been in crazy good form smashing the Bombers then smashing the Giants they look unbeatable while the Crows look like they couldn’t beat their reserves side. Saying that this game is like a final so anything could happen. The home ground fixture will play into the Bulldogs hands but don’t write off the Crows yet with two of their players from Ballarat in the Crouch brothers who would love to show their family a thing or two. Teams are yet to be finalised but expect the Crows to run with a much quicker team then last weekend and try and open up the Dogs on the rebound. The Dogs love to get the ball on the outside and use plenty of run and carry to expose their opposition. Tipping the Crows here by 10+

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Match of the round. Lions win and they are top spot Tigers win they are in the top 4. Lions lose they are 3rd. Tigers lose and they are 5th. So much on the line when both these sides face each other on Sunday at the MCG. The Tigers had a great victory vs the Eagles last weekend when they came back from 29 points down to defeat last years premiers by six points. The Lions are in some form and don’t look like being beat. They beat the Cats last weekend after coming from behind and what a win it was. They lose Allen Christensen who has reinjured his hamstring but should be ready for finals. I am tipping the Lions here just because of the form they are in and they fear no one. Half this side hasn’t played in front of 50,000 people expect 60+ this weekend and the noise will be louder than anything they would of heard up at the Gabba but this young side is up for the challenge and will come away with the chocolates.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What a week for the Dockers they have sacked the best coach in the club’s history. What a legacy he leaves. First coach to take the Dockers to a Grand Final multiple final appearances and a host of classic games, you will be missed Ross. Saying that the fans had enough of Ross and no finals this year was the final straw. This weekends game for the Power is huge if they win and win well and a few results go their way they will be playing finals football they don’t deserve to but they will be in there mostly making up the numbers. The game last weekend vs the Kangaroos confirmed to the world that this Power side are not up to the standard of the top 6 yet. Ken Hinkley looks like he is on borrowed time and this game could be his final as Power coach. Power welcome back Lycett and Duursma while Freo have rested Sandilands and Ballantyne who are both retiring. Tipping an upset here with the Dockers to win for interim coach David Hale.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Ash Barty @ $10

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">She’s got a major under her belt, she’s paying double figure odds and it appears the rest of the draw are falling apart around her. It’s never easy to win back to back majors, especially the French-Wimbledon double in such a quick turnaround. Barty had a small break after Wimbledon, and is slowly working her way back into it. Showed enough in the Cincinnati Masters that she’s a huge chance at the US Open. Despite being in the ‘horror half’, her draw is actually quite nice up until the Quarters. She’ll potentially face Sakkari in the third round, who does trouble her somewhat but really should cruise to the final 8 where Serena potentially awaits. I think she’s good enough to win the whole thing, especially considering the form and injury concerns of the top players in contention.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Next Best

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Bianca Andreescu @ $15

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The Canadian was awesome in winning the Rogers Cup, and despite having some injuries this season she’s crept into the world top 15. The 19-year-old’s form on hard court in 2019 is elite, with a record of 35-4! She’s now claimed three titles this year, including two Masters 1000 events – Indian Wells and the Rogers Cup in her home country. She also did some damage in Miami in March, before being forced to retire hurt. Has been a huge year for the Canadian, and is certainly a chance in what is the easier, unpredictable half.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Karolina Pliskova @ $13

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Don’t get me wrong, the Czech is a very, very good player on tour but has perennially underachieved at majors. Had a great opportunity at Wimbledon this year rolling into it in some of the best form of her career, but disappointed once again. Is a Finalist here when she was somewhat unknown in 2016, and has reached the Quarters the last two years, and I expect something similar again this year. Should get a relatively easy run to the Quarter Final stage.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Anett Kontaveit @ $81

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">What did I say about the unpredictable weaker half of the draw? The Estonian has bombed out in the first round the last three years at Flushing Meadows, yet I can still make a case for her to reach the second week – or even the Semi Finals. She could also quite easily go out in the second round, when she’ll likely face the in-form Czech $17 to win her quarter.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Value Bet

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Sofia Kenin @ $23

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Outstanding form leading into the US Open, playing in front of her home country. Semi Finalist in Cincinnati where she just couldn’t get her serve going against Madison Keys, off the back of another Semi Final in the Rogers Cup going down to eventual winner Andreescu. Is 23-9 on the hard courts this year with plenty of scalps – Barty, Osaka, Svitolina and Serena Williams just to name a few. Could have got her at $41 during the Cincinnati Masters as advised, but unsure whether the $23 is that appealing anymore being in the quarter of death. In fact, Kenin’s draw is extremely difficult all the way through starting from Coco Vandeweghe in the first round. She’ll also have to get through Madison Keys, Svitolina or Yastremska, and Pliskova. Chance for the Quarters, but might be too much going beyond there.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif; font-size: small;">Petra Kvitova @ $26

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Opens the US Open with a qualifier, which is the perfect preparation for her coming off a forearm injury. Appears she’s now back fully fit after having some serious troubles during the clay season. Is dangerous in any tournament, proven by her dominance at the Australian Open at the start of the year on the hard courts. Being in the second quarter of the draw, it could well and truly open up for her with plenty of upsets, but as it stands will likely face Garbine Muguruza in the round of 16, and the winner of Andreescu and Halep in the Quarters. Assess how she plays her first two matches – if she has two dominant wins, might be worth backing her then.

Wimbledon Day Three Men's Tips

Kyrgios progresses to Nadal clash

It's been a strange start to Wimbledon 2019 so far with a number of odd results and shocks, although yesterday's action was more from a set scoreline perspective, with Roger Federer surprisingly dropping his opening set against Lloyd Harris, while we saw a topsy turvy fourth and fifth set between Nick Kyrgios and Jordan Thompson, with the latter bagelling Kyrgios in the fourth set before Kyrgios took the decider for the loss of just one game.

A five set epic surely isn't the ideal preparation for Kyrgios to defeat Rafa Nadal, who eased past Yuichi Sugita, although the enigmatic Australian won't be lacking for motivation against the King of Clay following his oft-discussed media comments. Another five set epic saw the end of British player James Ward, who succumbed 8-6 in the decider after being two sets up against Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Anderson arguably the most vulnerable of the heavy favourites

Moving on to today's second round action, we have the usual array of heavy odds-on favourites which we tend to find in the early round of Slams, and Novak Djokovic, Roberto Bautista-Agut, Milos Raonic and Kevin Anderson are all priced around 1.10 or shorter. Of these, I feel that Anderson could be the most vulnerable, against Janko Tipsarevic.

Tipsarevic is obviously in the latter stages of his career, but the former top 10 star's numbers this year aren't an absolute disaster. He's running at just under 98% combined serve/return points won in main tour matches in 2019 and with Anderson perhaps not fully fit following injury, and the match anticipated to be rather serve-orientated, Tipsarevic is capable of keeping this competitive.

Lopez with greater grass pedigree than Khachanov

However, our recommendation comes in the Karen Khachanov against Feliciano Lopez match, with Khachanov a 1.89 favourite for this. We've already opposed Khachanov once this week with Soon Woo Kwon covering the game handicap against the Russian, and I'm not at all convinced about Khachanov's current ability on grass.

Lopez has a solid advantage on 18 month grass data, running at around 104% combined serve/return points won on the surface during this time span, with Khachanov back at just over 100%, and there's a strong argument that the market has the prices the wrong way around - Lopez has much greater grass court pedigree, and considering he turns 38 years of age in September, could well have huge motivation as there's going to be a reasonable chance this will be his last Wimbledon.

The other player my model liked, although from a small data sample size, was Leonardo Mayer at 2.92 against Hubert Hurkacz. Mayer is a solid player and probably a touch under-rated on grass, and while Hurkacz has done well this year - he's one of the most improved players - he's got plenty to prove on grass still. The winner of this is almost certain to face Novak Djokovic, who takes on Denis Kudla today.

In other matches, it wouldn't surprise me if Jeremy Chardy gave David Goffin a closer match than the market expects, with the Frenchman more than capable on grass, while the vast majority of the other matches on the card appear accurately priced by the market.

I'm going with another underdog to try and get our tournament back to winning ways, with Kirsten Flipkens available at 3.05 to get the better of Su-Wei Hsieh. I'm surprised with this line as Flipkens has very solid grass pedigree - she reached the semi-finals here in 2013 as well as the final of Hertogenbosch last season, among other achievements - and her defeats this year on the surface are far from disasters against decent opposition.

Hsieh had a huge win here last year over Simona Halep although prior to this victory, the 28th seed had achieved little on grass throughout her career. At the age of 33, that should be a big warning sign, and if we look at the grass court numbers across the last couple of seasons, Flipkens has held much more and only broken opponents marginally less.

Given the closeness of the stats, taking Flipkens at market prices seems a pretty solid play, and she is today's recommendation.

However, today's recommendation comes in the Filip Krajinovic against Frances Tiafoe match, with Krajinovic coming into the match in superb shape following a win in the Heilbronn Challenger, final in the Budapest ATP event and final in Sophia Antipolis Challenger - three consecutive finals.

Statistically, Krajinovic is running at a level far in excess of what Tiafoe can boast on the surface (Krajinovic is over 120% combined hold/break on clay in Challengers across the last two years) and the 1.50 looks value - I make him 1.35 here. A slightly bigger price is the -3.5 game handicap, which is likely to start the match around the 1.80 mark, and that's my recommendation.

Kyle Edmund’s form continues to slip, and has never been great on clay. The Brit is 1-5 on clay this year, and faces French native Jeremy Chardy who’s form hasn’t been too bad. Was really impressive at Madrid claiming the scalp of Schwartzman and knocked off fellow countryman Richard Gasquet in the Italian Open. Expect this match to go to at least four sets, with the likelihood of a tie-breaker quite high. If Chardy’s form at the Australian Open is anything to go by, he was involved a 58-game match in the first round and 55-game match in the second round.

Djokovic Hurkacz over 28.5 total games @ $1.82

We should all expect a straight sets win for Novak in this one, but that’s far too short ($1.43) against a tricky opponent in Pole Hubert Hurkacz. The 22-year-old stands at 6’5 with some powerful ground strokes and a troubling serve, and has now moved to 43 in the world in the rankings. It only takes one tie-breaker or a brain fade set from Djokovic to clear this 28.5 total games line, and his opponent is capable of pulling either off.

Frances Tiafoe @ $2.72

At extremely long odds in this one, off the back of a sensational Australian Open. Clearly clay isn’t Tiafoe’s surface of choice, but you can also say the same for his opponent Filip Krajinovic. The Serb certainly has some shots in his arsenal, but noting on that of Tiafoe. Has shown enough in the lead-up at Portugal and Madrid that he’s not a complete write-off on clay, and is clearly the more talented in this match-up. Like the value here.

Putintseva comes into the French Open off the back of winning the Nuremberg Cup, to round off a reasonable clay lead-up. What else is in her favour is the fact she made the Quarter Finals at Roland Garros last year, proving she’s clearly a fan of the surface and conditions. She also reached the Quarters here in 2016, plus a third round loss to Muguruza in 2017 resulting in a 12-5 career record in the French Open. As for her 23-year-old opponent Rebecca Peterson, she’s only played in the French Open last year where she advanced to the second round. The Kazakh in Putintseva will once again thrive at Roland Garros and advance in this one.

What a revival it has been for Konta, when many thought she was just a flash in the pan player. Was the world number 4 player in 2017 off the back of a Wimbledon Semi Final appearance, and everything has gone pear-shaped since then. But recent form indicates she may have turned the corner, albeit on clay of all surfaces. She reached the Final in Morocco going down to the red-hot Maria Sakkari, before reaching the Final in the Italian Open losing to Karolina Pliskova whilst claiming the scalps of Bertens and Stephens along the way. Her opponent here is German Antonia Lottner, ranked 147 in the world. Based on Konta’s current form, a straight sets win is on the cards.

Very keen on the value on offer for the Slovenian, Zidansek. The 21-year-old has moved to 60 in the world, reaching the Final at the Nuremberg Cup going down to Putintseva after taking the first set. She’ll ride this form up against Elise Mertens; a more than promising Belgian talent ranked 20 in the world, but in a major slump at the moment. She’s 2-5 on clay in the lead-up, including four first round exits and only one of those seven opponents inside the top 50. I like the Slovenian to cause an upset here bringing in her form from Nuremberg.

Pies a cut above the Swans

The Swans are just starting to get going this season, stringing together two wins in a row. They will be hunting a third on the trot against a red-hot Pies side on Friday night footy at the SCG. Narrow wins against the Bombers and Roos has done little to help the Swans’ position on the ladder, but they are just two games out of the top eight in 14th spot. Tom Papley was a star in their five point win against North, booting four goals as the red and whites held on to win, despite a late North surge. Collingwood’s 41 point win against the Saints flatters the Pies, who kicked 6.6 to 1.0 in the final term to blow their opponents away. That was despite being without Darcy Moore and Jordan De Goey, who should line up on Friday night. The SCG hasn’t been a happy hunting ground in recent seasons for the Pies, who are just 1-3 at the venue. A lot of their recent success against the Swans has come at ANZ Stadium, where they are 5-1 this decade. Sydney won by two points in round 20 last season and haven’t played the Pies in Melbourne since way back in 2013. The Wolf sees Collingwood as far and away the better team and they have grown a leg in their past two final quarters. Look at them to march home with another easy win, with the early three goal line sure to grow closer to game time.

Hawks to salute at happy hunting ground

The Hawks are the most inconsistent team in the competition after nine rounds, with their six goal drubbing by Richmond the latest in a string of topsy turvy results. Hawthorn has gone WLWL in their past four games, so following that pattern, they are good things to beat Port this Saturday, right? Their forward line again struggled against Richmond, with Luke Breust’s three goals and Tom Scully’s two majors the only multiple goal kickers in an eight goal effort. They will welcome a trip south to Launceston, where they are 31-1-5 since 2009. After a tight first half, the Power kicked away against Gold Coast last Sunday, to win by 38 points. Port has lost its past two games in Launceston, by three points last season and 12 goals in 2012. Ben McEvoy, James Frawley and Mitchell Lewis are all in doubt for Saturday’s clash. Port is 1-4 against top eight teams, with the bulk of their wins coming against the competition’s lesser lights. The 11th placed Hawks fall into that category, but their home ground advantage in Tasmania is the most dominant of any in the competition and based on that and their up and down form, The Wolf thinks they should win a close match of two evenly matched sides.

Dogs to have their day against North

The Dogs could be just percentage points outside the top eight with a win against the lowly Kangaroos on Saturday afternoon at Docklands. A 44-point loss to the Cats last time out wasn’t all bad news for the Dogs, who were down just 15 points at three quarter time, before a six goal to one final term blitz by the ladder leading Cats blew out the final margin, despite the visitors having 39 more touches than their opponents. An abysmal second term for the Kangas where they conceded seven goals hurt them massively, as they were always chasing in the second half and ran out of time, despite booting four goals to one in the final term. The Dogs have the ascendency in the recent head to head record, winning four of the past five against North, with the Roos’ only win in that time coming by two points in round 14 last season. North’s engine room has struggled to get going all season, ranking second last in clearances and far below the Dogs in inside 50s per game (58.3 v 50). Where they will have a chance to dominate is in the ruck, with the Dogs’ ruck stocks the worst in the competition, averaging just 23 hitouts per game. A four quarter effort is what the Roos need, but The Wolf has seen little in the first two months of the season to indicate the team from Arden Street can deliver that. The Dogs on the other hand have beaten the Lions and Tigers in the past month and will want continue their good recent form and should do so at a great price on Saturday.

Eagles to win close one in Adelaide

The Crows and Eagles play the first of two meetings this season at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon in what is near enough a coin flip game. Adelaide fell down by as much as 27 points in the final term against Brisbane in round 9 before staging a thrilling comeback to lose by just a point. The Eagles were in trouble after three quarters against Melbourne, down by two goals at the final change. A six goal to one last quarter got them over the line though, with Josh Kennedy’s four goals a highlight. The Eagles wont’ have Lewis Jetta in the travelling party as the speedster was suspended for rough conduct. West Coast has a strong record at the Adelaide Oval, winning seven of its nine games at the ground. Despite not playing their best footy this season, they are 6-3 and have won three on the trot. None of their wins have been commanding though. The 5-4 Crows suffered their first loss in a month against the Lions, but haven’t played sides the calibre of West Coast in that span. The Wolf thinks the Crows are false favourites in this one, and the Eagles’ strong record in Adelaide will hold them in good stead to pull off an upset win.

Cats to punish Suns despite injuries

An ankle injury to Patrick Dangerfield soured a 44-point win for the Cats against the Dogs last time out, their eighth victory of the year. They are sitting pretty at the top of the table after nine rounds and travel to the Gold Coast for a match against the slumping Suns. The 3-6 Suns have won one of their past five games and return home after a 38-point loss against Port. They have struggled all season for a tall marking forward after losing Tom Lynch to Richmond. Just four marks inside 50 against Port a week ago makes that evident. The Cats are 8-2 all time against the Suns, and Geelong has won four of the past five encounters. There have been some massive blowouts in those recent meetings, with the Cats drubbing the Suns by 102 points a season ago. Geelong has covered the handicap with ease all season and a trip up north shouldn’t pose them with too many challenges. The Cats injury list is growing by the week, but The Wolf has faith in the Cats to beat one of the league’s worst sides, given they have covered five in a row and won’t be jumping off them just yet.

Richmond Tigers ($1.43) v Essendon Bombers ($2.85)

Dons could pull off upset against Tigers

It wasn’t pretty but Essendon snuck home by seven points against Freo last Saturday night to end a three game winless streak. In a dour affair, Essendon kicked eight goals to the Dockers’ seven, with the teams combining for just six goals to half time. They play their now annual Dreamtime at the G match against the Tigers on Saturday night in front of what is sure to be one of the biggest crowds of the season. Richmond has won three of its past four games, with the only blemish in that span being a shock 47-point loss against the Dogs. The Tigers led at every change against the Hawks in round 9, with Josh Caddy and Tom Lynch leading the way with three goals each. Dustin Martin was unstoppable with 37 touches and the Bombers will need to lock down on the Brownlow Medallist if they are any chance of an upset. Richmond has been poor in contested possession this season, ranking 17th in the competition, while they are last in clearances. They are potent inside 50 though and are in the top five in the league for inside 50s and points per game. They have won eight in a row against the Bombers dating back to 2014, with their most recent win the narrowest in that span, an eight point victory in round 22 last season that ended the Dons’ slim finals hopes. The Wolf has fancied the Bombers as underdogs a few times this season and they have come close to pulling off the win, namely against the Pies. They will be up for this one and should keep it interesting down to the final siren.

Melbourne Demons ($2.55) v GWS Giants ($1.52)

Giants to end MCG hoodoo

The Giants will have to put behind them a terrible record at the MCG if they are to topple the Dees on Sunday. GWS is a miserable 2-15 at the MCG all time, including a heavy loss to the Hawks at the home of footy just a couple of weeks ago. They responded from that with their biggest win of the season, a 93-point hammering of Carlton. Leading by 12 goals at the break, the Giants barely had to get out of first gear in the second half, with Jeremy Finlayson kicking a career best five goals. While the Giants looking to cement a position in the top four, the Dees will be looking to break out of the bottom four. A two goal lead at three quarter time against the Eagles wasn’t enough to see them home last Friday, as they were dominated in the final quarter, managing just one goal to the Eagles’ six in another crushing defeat for last season’s preliminary finalists, who are now 3-6 and slipping out of finals contention. One of the Giants’ wins at the MCG came against Melbourne in 2014. Since then, the home team has won all of the matches between the two, including Melbourne’s 55 point win in round 23 last season. The Wolf thinks that surely the Giants’ horror run at the G has to end soon. They are just two goal favourites for in one and they are the only team in the league to beat the Cats this season. Melbourne don’t score enough goals and rarely kick away to match winning leads in 2019.

Saints to prevail against unbackable Blues

It’s panic stations at Carlton after yet another loss, this time a 93-point domination by GWS has coach Brendan Bolton’s job called into question in the press this week. The Blues can bounce back in a big way with a win against St Kilda on Saturday afternoon, in a match between two struggling teams. Both sides have lost four on the trot, but Carlton is 1-8 on the season, with their only win coming in round five against the Bulldogs. The Saints are 4-1 in the last five against the Blues, with a 64-point win last season in their only meeting in round 17. The Saints were well and truly in the contest up until three quarter time against the Pies, before collapsing in the final term conceding 6.6 to 1.0. Both sides are at the bottom end of the competition in scoring, with Carlton ranking 16th and the Saints ranked 15th for points per game, which points to a low scoring game. The Wolf is all too aware of the bounce back factor for sides that have been walloped a week ago, but simply can’t back the Blues in any circumstance at the moment. They have some promising young players, but their lack of defensive intensity in Sydney a week ago was concerning.

Home ground enough for the Dockers

The closest contest on paper this round comes from Perth, with the Dockers hosting the Lions on Sunday afternoon. Both teams played close games a week ago, with the Dockers falling by seven points against Essendon, while the Lions crept over the line by a point against Adelaide. Brisbane has only played at Optus Stadium once, thrashing the Dockers in round 15 last season by 55 points.. Their away form has been poor in 2019, with only one of their wins coming outside of Queensland, and that was against 17th placed North Melbourne. On the other hand, the Dockers’ home form has been mixed, with three wins and two losses. Last season they were 7-6 at Optus Stadium. Luke Hodge was a late out against the Crows with some calf problems, so will be one to keep an eye on for in regards to late team news. The Wolf is going to back the Dockers to push back into the top eight with a win, as the Lions aren’t proven travellers yet this season, in what will be one of the better games this round.
