Middlesbrough

It was heartbreak for Middlesbrough on Saturday as they looked like pulling off a shock victory at Old Trafford, but two late United goals thwarted them and they dropped to 16th in the table - just four points above the relegation zone.

The performance won't have worried Aitor Karanka as his team played exactly how he wanted them to, but he will be concerned by the fact that they have now lost four of their last five fixtures.

Results at the Riverside have improved however as they have won three of their five most recent outings in front of their own fans, which is a vast improvement on the start of their campaign where they took one point from a possible 12.

If the Teesiders are to survive, they will need to start putting more wins together, especially at home. Burnley are five places and five points better off than them, and the Clarets have picked up seven less points on the road.

Leicester

Claudio Ranieri will have breathed a huge sigh of relief on New Year's Eve as his decision to leave a few players out of the Boxing Day game against Everton kind of paid dividends as they beat West Ham 1-0. That being said, three points from two home games isn't exactly what champions should be aiming for.

Nevertheless, the Foxes are now up to 15th in the league and they will be hoping to build on that here. Their away form doesn't inspire however as they are yet to win away from the King Power this term, and the best they have managed is draws at Spurs and Stoke - the latter of which was a spirited comeback from 2-0 down with 10 men.

Jamie Vardy remains suspended due to events at Stoke but Islam Slimani weighed in with his fifth league goal of the campaign against the Hammers, but he's still got a long way to go to pay back his lofty price tag.

Match Odds
Middlesbrough 2.82 Leicester 2.96 The Draw 3.20

The Betfair layers are struggling to split them and so am I. Boro are three wins from nine at home and Leicester are no wins from nine on their travels. This is the kind of game that really could go either way and while I usually opt to back the outsider in this case, the fact that the three prices are so tight, means that there is no real value to be had at all.

If I had a gun to my head I would probably pick Leicester to win, but the good thing about betting is that we are not forced to put our money down, and there are plenty of other markets to get stuck into.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals
Over 2.5 Goals 2.56 Under 2.5 Goals 1.62

The market I am most interested in is this one as I quite fancy the over at a very tasty 2.56. On paper it doesn't sound like the kind of fixture to be a high-scoring affair, but there are actually plenty of stats that support my view.

The hosts have played nine times at home this year and four of them have seen over 2.5 backers collect, with two of those coming from their two most recent outings. They scored three times themselves against Swansea in a 3-0 win, while Liverpool put three past them the time before in a 3-0 win for the Reds.

Leicester's stats also make positive viewing in light of over 2.5 being bigger than 6/4 in the betting, as seven of their nine on the road have ended with the ball in the net on three occasions or more. It also makes good reading that despite their poor record away from home, Claudio Ranieri's men have only failed to score in two of those games, while they are yet to keep a clean sheet themselves.
