NRL PreviewManly Sea Eagles v Penrith Panthers
Saturday, September 2, 5:30pm (AEST) at Lottoland, Sydney

This is arguably the match of the round for its finals implications. The 8th placed Sea Eagles will host the 6th placed Panthers at a packed Lottoland, with a loss by either side potentially seeing them drop out of the Top 8, especially if the Cowboys and Dragons win their respective matches. The Panthers have been dealt a massive blow in the lead-up to this clash, with in-form fullback Dylan Edwards out with a knee injury. Former Sea Eagle Dean Whare has been named in the Panthers No.1 jersey, while Matt Moylan has been named on an extended bench, but is racing the clock in his bid to be a late inclusion.
HistoryThe Panthers have won five straight against the Sea Eagles, including a 16-8 win in Round 18. The Panthers have also won three of the last four at Brookvale.
FormCrucial game here with Manly likely needing a win to make the Top 8. The Sea Eagles have fallen to eighth with a 13-10 record  with just two wins in their last six games. They enter this off a golden point road win over New Zealand. Manly have conceded at least 18 points in their last six games. Penrith also have a 13-10 record but a significantly superior differential. The Panthers had won seven straight before going down at home to St George Illawarra. Penrith have conceded more than 16 points in just three of their last 10 games.
Stats That Matter– Manly are 10-13 ATS with a 14-9 over record while Penrith are 12-11 ATS with a 13-10 under number.
– Penrith have won five straight against Manly including a 16-8 win in Round 18.
– The Panthers have won three of the last four at Brookvale.
– Manly have been held to 12 or fewer in four of the last five clashes.
– The Sea Eagles have covered just four of their last 11 at Brookvale.
– The under is 13-7 when Manly are at Brookvale after a win.
– Manly have covered just 2 of their last 9 as a favourite at Brookvale.
– The Sea Eagles have covered just 1 of their last 11 as a favourite.
– Penrith have covered seven of their last eight matches.
– The under is 21-13 when Penrith are a road underdog.
– Penrith are 16-6 under after conceding 16 or fewer points when an underdog.
Final ThoughtsThe Wolf found it very hard to split these sides in a must-win clash, but is sticking with the Panthers based on their strong recent record over the Sea Eagles. The Sea Eagles were lucky to leave Auckland with the two competition points, and have fallen off the pace, winning just two of their last six games. The Panthers in a tight one.
