Shapovalov was the only seeded player to lose in the men’s draw overnight but that will change as the seeds begin to face off in the 3rd round! Dimitrov will have his hands full against Verdasco while Alexander Zverev will need to improve after he needed all 5 sets to get past Lajovic.
Men’s French Open Feature Previews
Damir Dzumhur v Alexander ZverevThe struggles of Zverev at the majors have been well publicised and he was in a deep hole against Lajovic before winning in 5. If he is to challenge at the majors, he cannot afford to be going 5 sets in the early rounds. The Wolf says he cannot be trusted at the majors – not yet anyway. Dzumhur is one of those streaky players that can definitely cause him trouble if given the opportunity. He beat Zverev in Shenzhen late last year and has the ability to trade blows from the baseline. His serve is a weakness but if he can dig his heels in we should see him claim a set. Best Bet: Over 30.5 games ($1.85)
Fernando Verdasco v Grigor Dimitrov The Wolf was confident that Dimitrov would drop a set against Donaldson and he will be fading the Bulgarian yet again. Verdasco is just the type of player to put him under extreme pressure. The H2H reads 2-2 with Verdasco winning their most recent encounter in Indian Wells earlier this year. All four of their matches have gone over the set total and this is a surface that will suit Verdasco more than it will Dimitrov. Look for Verdasco to hit a barrage of heavy forehands into the Dimitrov backhand. Verdasco to score an upset win. Best Bet: Verdasco +2.5 ($1.85)
David Goffin v Gael Monfils Monfils has a habit of turning things on in Paris and this year has been no exception. He has stormed into the 3rd round and it should come as no surprise with the record he has. He has won almost 75% of his matches here which includes a semi final appearance and several quarter final runs. This will be a real baseline dual – just like their other three clashes. Monfils is a big price and The Wolf wants a piece of it! Best Bet: Monfils WIN ($3.10)
