Atletico defence is back on track

Atletico Madrid made a winning start to their Champions League campaign against Monaco and can now cement their position at the top of Group A with a win over Club Brugge.

Diego Simeone's team have overcome some poor results at the beginning of their La Ligaseason, to find some form. Now unbeaten in five, their famously tight defence has kept four consecutive clean sheets, with Atletico drawing 0-0 away at arch rivals Real Madrid at the weekend.

With Real and Barcelona having dropped points in recent weeks, Atletico are now only three points from the top of La Liga, having been tipped to challenge for the title this season. Over in Belgium, Atletico's opponents Club Brugge lead the First Division A after an unbeaten start to the season (W8 D1). Brugge have won their last two league games 4-0.

They came close to pulling off a surprise in their Champions League opener, but conceded in the 85th minute to lose 1-0 at home to Borussia Dortmund. With some tough opponents in Group A, just finishing third and qualifying for the Europa League would be an achievement.
