Although Lucas Pouille has been around the top 30 for over 2 and a half years now, he is yet to face Novak Djokovic until Friday Night’s Australian Open Semi Final. The 24-year-old caused a huge upset in beating Milos Raonic in four sets, paying $5.50 in the head to head market. He also accounted for Borna Coric prior to that on route to his first Grand Slam Semi Final, but he now faces the biggest test in world tennis. Novak Djokovic will be extremely fresh going into this match spending only 52 minutes on court in the Quarter Final before Kei Nishikori retired hurt. This certainly helps the world number 1, after a grueling 4-setter against Daniil Medvedev before that which lasted over 3 hours. The ground strokes by Pouille have been the key reason behind his run this tournament, in particular against the unforced error riddled Coric (55) and his ability to handle the Raonic serve and passing shots when the big Canadian was at the net. Unfortunately for Pouille though his strengths will be counteracted by Djokovic’s defensive ability. I’m predicting a Semi Final blowout – Djokovic in straight sets, clearing the 7.5 game handicap and under 30.5 total games.
