2020 NRL Round 17 – Tips, Predictions & Odds

Thursday 3/9/20

7:50pm Brisbane Broncos vs. Penrith Panthers @ Suncorp Stadium

The losing streak of the Brisbane Broncos is quite incredible and it’s odds-on of continuing this Thursday night.

Brisbane hasn’t won a game since the NRL restarted and they now face the best team in the NRL. Penrith should put up a big number on the Broncos, who were thrashed by the Roosters last week.

The Panthers have been running up big wins over much better teams and it’s not surprising to see the current line set at 20.5 points.

Betting tip: Panthers –20.5 @ $1.90

Friday 4/9/20

6:00pm Newcastle Knights vs. Cronulla Sharks @ McDonald Jones Stadium

There is serious concern over the Knights’ ability to win late in the season, as they showed when losing to the New Zealand Warriors last week.

They were manhandled by a team sitting outside the top eight and the Sharks looked good in Round 16 against the Cowboys.

Cronulla had a shaky start but piled on the points thereafter. Despite missing Shaun Johnson, their offense was terrific and that momentum could continue on Friday.

Betting tip: Sharks to win @ $1.95

7:55pm South Sydney Rabbitohs vs. Melbourne Storm @ ANZ Stadium

The Rabbitohs have hit top gear after another thrilling performance over the Parramatta Eels last week. It was a one-sided affair but it came at a cost.

Latrell Mitchell will be out for weeks and he can be their driving force in the backline. However, despite losing Mitchell, there is supreme confidence in this unit.

There is also confidence in the Storm camp after putting away the Manly Sea Eagles last week. Cameron Smith’s return was vital and with a healthy side, they should be tough to beat this week.

Expect a quality contest between two excellent teams.

Betting tip: Storm to win @ $1.50

Saturday 5/9/20

3:00pm Canterbury Bulldogs vs. Gold Coast Titans @ ANZ Stadium

It comes as no surprise to see bookmakers framing an even market for this game. Two bad teams face each other as the Bulldogs square off against the Titans.

Canterbury continues to lose and they find themselves in wooden spoon position. The Titans were looking good for the spoon but they have shown some form of late.

They are coming off an upset win of the Dragons and that’s enough to put them on top this week.

Betting tip: Titans to win @ $1.90

5:30pm Manly Sea Eagles vs. Wests Tigers @ Lottoland

The Tigers saw their slim playoff chances take another hit last weekend when losing heavily to the Penrith Panthers.

After showing promise earlier in the season, it has all unraveled for the struggling club. However, they play another struggling team this week, so that helps.

Bookmakers have Manly as the firm favourites, despite losing to the Storm last week. They face easier opposition here and many are expecting a form turnaround.

It’s a tough game to call but we’re giving the narrow edge to the home side.

Betting tip: Sea Eagles to win @ $1.55

7:35pm Canberra Raiders vs. Sydney Roosters @ GIO Stadium

A blockbuster is set for Saturday night as the improving Raiders take the Sydney Roosters, who have regained their best form.

Sydney looked shaky a few weeks ago and that was largely due to injuries, but they have been on fire in recent weeks. They scored a big win over the Broncos last week and their offense is scoring at will.

Canberra is also in good form and despite facing easier teams, they have gone about their business in good fashion.

Playing at GIO Stadium is ideal but we are not sure if they can stop the rampaging Roosters.

Betting tip: Roosters to win @ $1.53

Sunday 6/9/20

4:05pm New Zealand Warriors vs. Parramatta Eels @ Central Coast Stadium

The Warriors have come alive and after beating the Knights by a big margin, their confidence levels will be high.

They have done well to find themselves in ninth position, given their off-field commitments and players heading back home to New Zealand. They could strike gold against an Eels team that hasn’t been playing well of late.

Parramatta started the season with a hiss and a roar, but after being demolished by the Rabbitohs last week, there are some bad signs.

Bookmakers are giving the Warriors an 8.5-point start, which could be enough.

Betting tip: Warriors +8.5 @ $1.90

Eels by 2

6:30pm North Queensland Cowboys vs. St George Dragons @ Queensland Bank Stadium

The Dragons did their playoff hopes no favours when losing to the Gold Coast Titans last week. It was a big upset, but now they need to recoup against an inexperienced Cowboys team.

North Queensland’s team doesn’t reflect an NRL side and the injury to Michael Morgan added to their pain last week.

They have youth on their side but the lack of experience is worrying. Expect the Dragons to come away with the win in a tricky game to close Round 17.

Betting tip: Dragons to win @ $1.60
