Plymouth Argyle v Liverpool

Plymouth

Argyle are enjoying a fine season in League Two, sitting second in the league under the stewardship of young Scottish manager Derek Adams. The club have enjoyed plenty of positives under the 41-year-old, reaching the Play-Off final last season but Argyle's 0-0 draw at Anfield is probably the highlight of his time at the club. Can they cap his tenure with a landmark defeat of a major Premier League team? The Pilgrims will adopt the same defensive approach they took at Anfield, but they looked dangerous on the break there and with the club on the up and a sold-out stadium roaring Argyle on you just never know...

Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp's side came close to a statement win on Sunday when going ahead at Old Trafford only to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic snare a late equaliser. It was the fourth game in a row that Liverpool have failed to win (three draws including the Argyle game, and an EFL Cup defeat to Southampton) but this has still been a hugely exciting first full season under Klopp - a title challenge is still on, Champions League qualification is in their hands and they are the top scorers in the Premier League.

Klopp fielded a weaker than usual team first time around but will probably stiffen the ranks with a bit more experience for this away test.

Match Odds

Liverpool went off around [1.1] to win the first meeting between the two but are [1.31] to do the business in the replay. Long odds backers may be interested in an Argyle upset at [12.0], while the draw is [6.2]. A warning for those thinking an Argyle win is impossible - Liverpool have suffered FA Cup humiliation in recent years.

While the away win is the most likely result, we never tip up teams priced as short as Liverpool on these pages. Luckily, punters looking to back the Premier League side have plenty of options open to them.

Going on Adams' quoted defence-first tactics it might pay to get behind a low-scoring away win - a Liverpool-Under 2.5 Goals double pays at [3.5] on the Sportsbook.

On a similar tip the Liverpool win to nil can be backed at [2.18], and that is the selection for me. It took a monumental effort for Argyle to survive the original tie, and it's unlikely they can pull it off again. Liverpool's superior class should be enough this time.

If you were convinced Klopp's men will dominate from the off, the Liverpool-Liverpool Halftime-Fulltime result is [1.9].

Over/Under 2.5 Goals

Once again overs is a short price at [1.63] (overs is [2.44]) but the clue here is Argyle's tactics. We may not see a repeat of the 0-0 - a [20.0] shot on the Betfair Exchange - but it could be similarly low-scoring, especially if the home side can get to the break with the game goalless.

If playing in the market the longer price is the one to take.

Recommended Bet Back Liverpool to win to nil @ [2.18
