After a blitz of activity in December and over the New Year, the fantasy world has slumbered. It all gets back going this weekend and Neil Monnery is here with his thoughts ahead of GW23...

Eight to like

Sergio Aguero - £11.7m. He might be one of the most expensive players in the game but it has been a risk picking the Argentine international all season long. That feeling of peril should dissipate now that Gabriel Jesus is injured. Aguero is expected to start week in, week out until the young Brazilian is fit again. Who wouldn't want the striker of the best attacking team in their side?
Jesse Lingard - £6.3. When I first wrote positively about the Manchester United midfielder several weeks ago, only 1% of teams had selected him. At the time of writing that is up to 16.3% and he's still immense value. Stoke at home on Monday night is a good match-up on paper. Consider this, he's performing at the level of a top level midfielder, yet he's priced up as a fourth-tier player in that category. That is why he's still worth it.
Mesut Ozil - £9.3m. This comes with a slight note of caution as the German has a knee injury but is expected to play on Sunday. I sat on my sofa watching the Arsenal v Chelsea EPL game and watching Ozil was a genuine joy. When he's in the mood, he's one of the very best chance creators in the league. Playing against the Bournemouth defence will open up plenty of opportunities for him to have a good fantasy day.
James Tomkins - £4.3m. Roy Hodgson has certainly helped elevate the play of Crystal Palace. Defensively they've become far more solid and it is a good time to bring in one of their ranks to bolster your options at the back. The one I've picked out is James Tomkins. He's dirt cheap and with Burnley coming into town, plenty of clean sheet potential here.

Jordan Ayew - £5.0m. Picking a Swansea striker isn't the most obvious move in the 'How to win at fantasy football' playbook. However Ayew has scored twice in the past four and they go on the road to Newcastle on Saturday. At such a paltry price, bringing in the 26 year-old Ghanaian would give you plenty of options elsewhere.
Jordan Ayew is currently trading at 4.50 to score anytime in the Newcastle v Swansea match on the Exchange
Dusan Tadic - £6.3m. This thought is based mainly on who Southampton are playing this week. Watford haven't recorded a Premier League clean sheet in nine games. Tadic has looked decent in recent weeks and I can't pull the trigger on Shane Long, so a low priced fourth midfield option is a value play considering the match-up.

Andre Carrillo - £5.5m. Sticking with the cheap midfielder theme, the Peruvian has found a rich vein of form recently. He got an assist against Man City, scored v Swansea and also found the back of the net in the FA Cup. Southampton are slightly better defensively than Watford but if you are shopping in the basement, he's a bargain price.

Luke Shaw - £4.9m. Having started the last three on the spin, it seems as though the young left-back is finally back in favour with Jose Mourinho. Back-to-back clean sheets coupled with a real chance to grab assists means he's very much back on the fantasy radar. Stoke at home this week is a great spot to bring him in.

Two to avoid

Alvaro Morata - £10.5m. Not liking the Spaniard is based solely on the eye-test. It seems like Morata is one of those strikers who is incredibly streaky. If he's cold then walk away and checking his temperature, the 25 year-old is freezing at the moment.

Virgil van Dijk - £5.4m. Next week I wouldn't be shocked if he's my first player mentioned in the like category. This week however it is Manchester City rolling up to Anfield. They have scored in every single EPL game this season. That wouldn't be the ideal spot to bring in a defender would it?

Captain's pick

If he plays then I expect Mesut Ozil to have a fantastic day. You look at the way Bournemouth play and it is perfect for the World Cup winner to pierce their back-line with his killer through balls. The Liverpool v Man City game should be one for attacking players to shine, so the likes of Salah, Firmino, Aguero, De Bruyne and Sterling are all good options as well.
Over 3.5 Goals is currently trading at 2.08 in the Liverpool v Manchester City match on the Exchange
