The season got off to the best possible start for Thomas Christiansen and his Leeds side as they came through a very tricky trip to the Macron Stadium and ran out 3-2 winners. It was an important result given the skepticism around the former APOEL boss' appointment and he won't want to give up any of that momentum this evening.

The visitors to Elland Road are League Two's, Port Vale, with the Valiants having won their opening match in their new division on Saturday. They were relegated from England's third tier last term, but with a number of big names in League Two, they face a hard battle to go straight back up.

This should be a relatively straightforward passage through to the next round of the EFL Cup for the hosts, even if they don't field their strongest XI. The manager is yet to win over the supporters enough to risk crashing out of the cup at this early stage, so don't expect a complete second string team.

Another EFL Cup victory should come from Bramall Lane as Sheffield United take on Walsall.

The Blades started life in the Championship with a victory on this ground against Brentford. Despite being new to the division, they have to be considered as potential Play-off contenders. They are still a big club and Chris Wilder is a hugely promising manager.

If we include their pre-season friendlies, they are on a 24 match undefeated streak, with the vast majority of them being wins.

The visitors themselves had a pretty miserable pre-season and they were beaten 1-0 at Bury on Saturday. That wasn't exactly the start that Jon Whitney would have been hoping for and they need to improve if they want to better their 14th placed League One finish last year.

Bet 3Back Gremio @ 2/5 - KO 23:15 BST

We conclude in South America as the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals will start taking shape.

One of the clubs who will surely be in the last eight are Gremio as they hold a 1-0 lead over Godoy Cruz, and they have home advantage tonight. The Porte Alegrebased club have always been on the periphery of success over the last couple of years but this season they have taken it to another level.

Renato Portaluppi's side are four points clear in second place in the Brazilian Campeonato and they have to be considered as one of the potential candidates to lift this trophy for only the third time in their history.

Opponents, Godoy Cruz, are a solid enough Argentinian side but they aren't one of the elite. They have a bit of a disadvantage tonight as their domestic season ended a couple of months ago, so although their players will be fresher, they haven't been playing competitive games.

The hosts don't actually need to win this fixture, but as their lead is only a slender one, they surely won't take any chances and play for the draw. It's also unlikely that a Brazilian club will go easy against an Argentinian one.
