ATP Basel Feature Preview
Roger Federer v Frances TiafoeTiafoe took it to Federer at the US Open, forcing a deciding 5th set, but it is clear that Federer was hindered by injury at the tournament. He was back to his best in Shanghai last week where he claimed his 3rd Masters Series title of the season. He is a 7 time winner in his home town and has made the final in his last 10 appearances here. Admittedly he feels the pressure when playing in front of a home town crowd and he will have to be at his best from the get go. The conditions here suit him to a tee and he will win in excess of 80% of points behind his first serve. Goffin won 46% of return points against Tiafoe last week and The Wolf says Federer could post a similar number. A break in each set with see the top seed cruise into the second round.
Best Bet: Under 20.5 games ($1.73)
Florian Mayer v Marin CilicFlorian had given Cilic trouble in the past but the Croat seems to have figured him out. Cilic has won both of their meetings this season and 7 straight sets against the German. He is coming off back to back semi’s in Tokyo and Shanghai – not to mention he is the defending champ here. Mayer can be a tricky opponent for those who have never faced him before but Cilic has the game plan to make light work of him.
Best Bet: Cilic -4.5 ($1.73)
ATP Vienna Feature Preview
Lucas Pouille v Sebastian OfnerFrenchman Lucas Pouille has been inconsistent in terms of results but very consistent in playing tiebreakers. He has contested 16 breakers in his last 14 best of 3 set matches and those numbers rival the likes of Karlovic and Isner. It makes the Over a automatic play in his matches and the price on offer for a first set breaker is just insane! The first set has gone to a breaker in 8 of the last 13 Pouille matches. At $4.60 we’d be crazy not to have something on!
Best Bet: 1st Set Correct Score 7-6 ($4.40)
Andrey Rublev v Dominic ThiemThiem has more than just hit a speed bump… he has ran right into a brick wall. He has lost his last 5 matches on tour and after backing Troicki to beat him last week The Wolf says we will continue to lay him. This week he faces the additional pressure of performing in front of a home town crowd and he has failed to adapt to the fast courts over the last month. He has been battling big time! Take Rublev with the handicap start and also back him outright.
Best Bet: Rublev +3.5 ($1.91)
