Five to like

Henrikh Mkhitaryan & Mohamed Salah - £8.4m & £9.1m. I have lumped these two together because of the injury to Paul Pogba and the three-match ban for Sadio Mane. The latter pair were selected by over 20% of teams, so plenty of FPL players will have a big pile of cash to burn in midfield. I'd just look to pass the buck to a teammate. Mkhitaryan is flourishing in the no10 role with five assists through four games whereas Salah has two goals and two assists.

Mo Salah is currently trading at 4.40 to be the first goalscorer in Saturday's match on the Exchange

Alberto Moreno - £4.5m. Staying with Liverpool, Moreno seems to have reinvented himself in the off season. Half the time against Sevilla, he seemed to be playing left wing and driving into key attacking positions. He's started three of four games in the Premier League and if he keeps up this form, at £4.5m he's a Fantasy bargain.

Andy Carroll - £5.9m. My long time disappointment fantasy wise is starting to tempt me once more. Will I never learn? When fit, Carroll is a very gifted player. He creates chaos in opposition boxes and is a complete mismatch at set pieces. His price this year is extremely low due to his knack of missing time through injury but when available, he is superb value.

Andy Carroll is currently trading at 3.05 to score at anytime in Saturday's match on the Exchange

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting - £5.6m. We all saw the two goals against Manchester United but that isn't the exciting bit. The fact he's listed as a midfielder and is playing as a no9 should get the Fantasy manager drooling at the possibilities. Newcastle away for Stoke this week but anytime you can get a player in his position who can score double digits you have to look more than twice. At the price he's available at, I'd be stunned if he's not selected by over 10% of teams this weekend.

Davide Zappacosta - £6.0m. If Chelsea had one weakness in their title winning squad last year, it was cover in the wing-back areas. That seems to have been addressed by the acquisition of Zappacosta on deadline day. He scored a fluke in the Champions League in midweek but expect him to be just as attacking as Marcus Alonso is on the other side, if he gets the nod over Victor Moses. At £6.0m that makes him very interesting.

Five to avoid

Danny Welbeck - £7.5m. The England man has amassed as many fantasy points so far this season as Romelu Lukaku. This stat enough is enough to blow your mind but don't expect it to continue. Arsenal travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday and we all saw how painful it was the last time they faced another supposed top team. I'm not expecting much from him or Arsene Wenger's men this week.

Wayne Rooney - £7.5m. As of the time of writing, the former England captain has been selected by 17.8% of teams. This staggers me. I know a lot of nostalgia will be playing a part as he returns to Old Trafford but he hasn't done anything in his past two games. I'd be more fearful of a red card than expectant of a goal because we all know how charged up he'll be.

Watford's defence - various. Three clean sheets on the spin have made it look like the Hornets are going to be tight at the back this year. José Holebas is the top priced defender at £5.0m. So why am I down on them this weekend? Manchester City are rolling into town and if you have players up against that offensive juggernaut, bench or drop them.

Granit Xhaka - £5.6m. When looking at the list of midfielders sorted by percentage of teams selected by, I was bewildered at how high the Arsenal man was. 14.3% of managers have him in their squad. I know he's relatively cheap but he's never been much of an asset fantasy wise. Two goals and three assists last season and I'm not expecting much more this team around.

Wilfried Bony - £6.0m. If you are one of the 0.6% of teams who believe in Bony then you are really going out on a limb. His return to Swansea is nice and in time he may rediscover the form that made Manchester City want to sign a cheque for way too much money for his services. That time though is not now and with Spurs up this weekend. Pass.

Captain's pick

If you have the money to be lucky enough to afford Harry Kane (£12.4m) then he's a slam dunk pick as your captain. He's hit the back of the net four times in the past seven days. Spurs are ready to tear a team apart. It's not September any more. For those of us with tighter finances, I also expect Chelsea to score more than one against Arsenal so Alvaro Morata (£10.2m) is also a fine pick.

Any other home win (over 4 goals to the home side) is currently trading at 3.45 in the Correct Score market for Saturday's match on the Exchange
