Liverpool got their revenge on Manchester City but they so nearly ruin it with a late collapse in an incredible game at Anfield
There will be no unbeaten season for Manchester City after Pep Guardiola's men suffered a second-half Liverpool ambush at Anfield today.
It will almost certainly not be enough to spark new life into the title battle - City are still 1.05 to win the league with a 15 point advantage over second-placed United - but we finally know that the runaway leaders can be beaten.
And there was a tinge of revenge to proceedings. Liverpool were famously beaten 5-1 at The Etihad earlier this season in a game where Sadio Mane was sent off for a high boot red card that many still consider a little dubious.
The home side, who went off as outsiders in the match odds, were ahead first through an unlikely source - Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain firing past Ederson to reward backers of the ex-Arsenal man at 34.00 to score first. Leroy Sane ensured it would be level at the break with a rifled finish past Loris Karius.
And Oxlade-Chamberlain enjoyed a fantastic afternoon, setting up Roberto Firmino for his team's second goal of the afternoon. Sadio Mane made it three and Mo Salah from long range completed the win. Liverpool were backed at a high of 3.80 for the win.
But Bernardo Silva scored a second for City in the 84th minute and when Ilkay Gundongan added a third with three minutes left to play to make it a very nervous ending for the home side. In a game where everyone expected plenty of net busters over 6.5 goals was backed at a high of 80.00.
The result leaves Liverpool level on points with United and Chelsea, although Jose Mourinho's men have a game in hand (against Stoke on Monday night). The top four market makes those three teams heavey odds-on to finish in the Champions League places.
Spurs look the only other real contenders for a top four spot after Arsenal's season suffered another body blow when the north London side were beaten when a goal up against lowly Bournemouth in the day's early kick-off.
Ahead through Hector Bellerin's strike Arsenal were backed in to a low of 1.26 on the Betfair Exchange only to concede twice in four minutes as Callum Wilson inspired the home side to a stirring win. The England World Cup hopeful opened Bournemouth's scoring on 70 minutes and set up Jordon Ibe for the winner. Bournemouth were backed in-play at 32.00.
