Brisbane v Perth – (Thur 7:50pm)The Wolf made note of the Glory’s defensive issues and they were on full display again last week as the Victory found a late winner against them. They have now allowed 14 goals in their last 4 games – all losses. They will not get a better chance to rectify those problems than this week against the Roar. Brisbane have the equal worst attack in the A-League (16 goals) and have failed to score in each of their last 3 games. Both sides will fancy their chances to collect all 3 points and if it comes down to who can find the back of the net The Wolf says we have to be on the visitors. Brisbane have lost their last 4 at home and conceded multiple goals in each of those matches. Perth offered plenty in attack last week and are great value as outsiders here.
Best Bet: Perth Over 1.5 goals ($2.45)
Value Bet: Perth WIN ($3.40)
Western Sydney v Melbourne Victory – (Fri 7:50pm)
Josep Gombau has definitely helped the Wanderers turn a new leaf. They have lost just 1 of their last 6 and the biggest improvement has come on the defensive end. They have allowed a total of 3 goals in their last 4 matches but will have to do it without Hamill who was sent off in the draw with Wellington. Barbarouses handed the Victory all 3 points with a last gasp winner last week but building on that result will not be easy. Kevin Muscat’s side have managed consecutive wins just once this season but have won 3 of their last 4 away games. They would have made it 4 in a row had Williams not been sent off in Welling ton a fortnight ago and red cards has been a problem in their recent meetings with the Wanderers. They have had a player sent off in each of their last two meetings with the Wanderers and cannot afford a repeat. The men in blue are undefeated in their last 5 meetings against the Wanderers and have conceded just once to them in that stretch. The Wolf is predicting a very tight affair with very little between them.
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals ($1.95)
Value Bet: Both Teams To Score – NO ($2.15)
Newcastle v Wellington – (Sat 5:35pm)The door has been opened for the Jets and a win here would see them close the gap to Sydney FC to just 3 points. They are coming off back to back home wins over the Mariners and Roar and can complete the treble against the A-League’s bottom three sides. The Jets have posted 3 consecutive clean sheets at McDonald Jones Stadium with the Phoenix scoring just a single goal in their last 6 away games. The Nix have the worst away record in the A-League by some margin with 6 losses and 2 draws in their last 8 trips. For the better part of the season the Jets were a goal scoring machine but they have added another string to their bow with their newly found defensive prowess. We’ll be sticking with the Jets at home.
Best Bet: Newcastle WIN ($1.66)
Value Bet: Teams To Score – Newcastle Only ($3.00)
Sydney FC v Central Coast – (Sat 7:50pm)
The Mariners remain the only team to take all 3 points against Sydney this season but The Wolf says they could not be meeting them at a worse time. Graham Arnold and his troops were evidently frustrated in a 0-0 draw with Adelaide last weekend and when you combine that with the fact that they lost to the Mariners last time out, you have a recipe for the Sydney FC masterclass. The Sky Blues are undefeated at home this season (6 wins and 2 draws) and have scored multiple goals in all 8 of those matches. Sydney have dominated this series with 8 wins, 1 draw and just the 1 loss in the last 10 clashes. They have scored 3 or more goals in 6 of those matches and The Wolf says we could see them really break the hearts of the Mariners at Allianz Stadium. There will be a party in the grandstand for the hosts.
Best Bet: HT/FT – Sydney/Sydney ($1.75)
Value Bet: Sydney FC Over 3.5 goals ($4.00)
Melbourne City v Adelaide – (Sun 7:00pm)
Adelaide’s performance last week was inspiring to say the least. While his side battled on the field coach Kurz has his own rivalry going with Graham Arnold. The German’s display of emotion at full time will have provided his players with an immense amount of motivation. He has shown faith in a large number of youngsters including Strain, O’Doherty and Ochieng – all aged under 21. They face a very different opponent this week. Melbourne City play at a much slower pace than Sydney FC and they are not as strong in the middle of the park. Kurz will have a plan to contain McCormack and if the Reds can keep him quiet they will go a long way towards getting a good result. Adelaide have conceded 3 goals in a 5 game stretch which is a testament to their collective effort defensively. The Wolf cannot see City scoring multiple goals and that will allow the visitors to grab at least a point.
Best Bet: Under 2.5 goals ($1.90)
Value Bet: Draw ($3.50)

Best Bets Round 17

Best Bet: Newcastle WIN ($1.66)
Best Value: Sydney FC Over 3.5 goals ($4.00)
