NRL Preview
Sydney Roosters v Manly Sea Eagles

Friday, March 31, 6pm (AEDT), Allianz Stadium, Sydney

The Roosters will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run to start the season when they host the Sea Eagles at Allianz Stadium on Friday night. They should welcome back hooker Jake Friend, after he missed the victory over the Rabbitohs last week. Meanwhile, the Sea Eagles will want to continue building on their impressive fortnight, which has seen them upset the Cowboys in Townsville and shut out the Bulldogs last week.
History
The Sea Eagles have won 3 of the past 4 clashes against the Roosters, while the Roosters have won 5 of the past 8 encounters if you go further back through the history books. The Sea Eagles won last year’s Round 4 clash at Allianz Stadium 22-20, although the Roosters halves pairing on that occasion consisted of Aidan Guerra and Jackson Hastings.
Form
The Sydney Roosters have been one of the form teams over the opening month with a 4-0 record that includes a victory at Penrith. While they have not had the most difficult draw they have posted 20-plus in three of their outings with Luke Keary the best player in the premiership over the first four rounds. Manly’s form turnaround has been incredible with their form over the first two weeks embarrassing in losses to Parramatta and South Sydney before incredible victories over North Queensland and Canterbury. In those two wins they scored 30 points in each while conceding just a single try.
Key Matchup
Mitchell Pearce v Daly Cherry Evans. Pearce looks to have put a turbulent 2016 season behind him and has even put his name back in the selection ring for the NSW No.7 jersey. Meanwhile, Cherry-Evans will be the first to admit that his form has been disappointing at best, but he has bounced back in the best possible way. He was inspirational in the upset win over the Cowboys and then produced a masterclass against the Bulldogs, assisting 5 of the 7 Sea Eagles tries.
Stats That Matter
The Sydney Roosters are 3-1 ATS with a 2-2 totals number while Manly are 2-2 ATS a 3-1 under record. Four of the last five Roosters-Sea Eagles games have topped 40 points. The Roosters are 13-19 ATS off a double digit win since 2014 while they are 5-10 ATS after conceding single digits. The Roosters have gone over in 7 of their last 8 at Allianz Stadium.  The Sea Eagles are 13-9 ATS getting 6 or more away from Brookvale.
Final Thoughts
The Wolf has to put his hand up here and admit that he didn’t think that the Sea Eagles would do much this season. They’ve been outstanding over the past fortnight and face another stern test when they take on the Roosters. The Roosters will be boosted by the return of Jake Friend and will rely on their brickwall defence again, although the Sea Eagles will throw plenty more at them than the Rabbitohs did last week. The +7.5 looks very generous for the Sea Eagles, who are playing with plenty of confidence.
