The Wolf said we would lose at least one former champion yesterday but we lost two with Murray and Djokovic both exiting the tournament. In the women’s draw only one former winner remains, Venus Williams, as like Querrey yesterday she will be out to dash the hopes of the locals when she takes on Konta. In the other semi The Wolf cannot see Rybarikova making her way past Muguruza.

Venus Williams v Johanna Konta

She may be 37 but Venus Williams is playing the tennis of a 25 year old and The Wolf couldn’t be more excited about one of his pre tournament selections. There is a reason why she is a 5 time winner at Wimbledon – her serve! To have a big serve in the men’s game is one thing but on the women’s tour it holds even more significance. This is mainly due to the fact that there are more breaks of serve in the women’s game and as we saw in here quarter final clash, if you cannot break Venus’ serve then you simply cannot beat her. Venus has won in excess of 80% of first serve points throughout the tournament – unheard of outside of the Williams sisters. The Wolf cannot see Konta breaking down the Venus serve. The Brit has already been pushed to a deciding set on three occasions and has had to expend a mountain of energy to get to this stage – both physical and mental. She has the weight of a nation on her shoulders and this is the stage in major where experience plays a big part. This is foreign territory for her and the fact that she has lost in the 1st round in 4 of her 5 appearances hear reveals that the pressure has played part. The combination of the Williams serve and experience will get the veteran over the line.

Best: Venus Williams WIN ($2.00)
Value: Sets Williams 2-1 ($4.50)

Garbine Muguruza v Magdalena Rybarikova

The dream run of Rybarikova continued in the quarters with a straight sets win over fancied Coco Vandeweghe. She gets the chance to continue her giant killing run against Muguruza – the 2016 French Open champion and a former finalist here. The Spaniard has benefited dramatically from having Conchina Martinez in her corner during the tournament. The pair have worked together for the Fed Cup and it is clear that part of the game plan is to get Muguruza moving into the net where possible. She is averaging in excess of 10 net approaches per set and with Vandeweghe having success when she moved forward The Wolf expects the Spaniard to come in behind her heavy ground-strokes. Rybarikova will continue to swing for the fences but she is up against a brick wall that can punch back. The pair have two wins a piece in their four career meetings but they haven’t met since 2015 and Muguruza is a very different player these days. She has really developed her game over the last 24 months and the addition of her net play makes her a very tough proposition. The Wolf says Rybarikova’s magical run will come to an end.

Best: Muguruza WIN ($1.40)
Value: Sets Muguruza 2-0 ($2.00)
