Pablo Carreno-Busta v Diego Schwartzman

In a true reflection of the court conditions we see two clay court specialists clash in the quarters of the US Open! Priot to this tournament the French Open earlier this year had yielded the best result at a major for both men. Carreno-Busta went down to Rafa in the quarters while Schwartman went down to Djokovic in 5 sets in the 3rd round – his one and only appearance beyond the 2nd round in 13 attempts. Carreno-Busta is yet to drop a set in the tournament but it is Schwartzman who has gone on a giant killing run beating Cilic and Pouille in back to back matches. His all court tennis , ability to break serve and fighting qualities have earned one of the smallest men on tour (5 foot 7) a tonne of respect from his peers. As mentioned by The Wolf in the past he ranks second behind Murray in return game won and anyone who can break the Cilic serve 9 times in one match is a force to be reckoned with. He now has 30 breaks of serve for the tournament and The Wolf simply cannot ignore that number. Take him with the start and for the outright win!

Best: Schwartzman +3.5 ($2.00)

Sam Querrey v Kevin Anderson

It took Sam Querrey 42 attempts to make his maiden Grand Slam semi-final and he is just a single win a way from making it back to back semi’s at the majors. The American has rarely performed well here in the past and has in fact lost in the 1st round in the last two years. He has taken full advantage of the bottom half of the draw and could make it all the way to the final without meeting a player ranked in the top 20. Querrey leads the H2H 9-6 but is is Anderson who has had the better of it lately. Anderson has won 3 of the last 4 meetings on a hard court including a straight sets win on Montreal in the lead in to the US Open. Querrey won their only meeting at Grand Slam level which came via a 5 set thriller at Wimbledon earlier this year. The Wolf has serious question marks over Anderson in big matches. He has made the quarters of a slam just once and is just 2-9 in 4th round matches. At Grand Slam and Masters 1000 level he is a combined 0-9 in quarter final matches. He is known to come up short in the clutch and The Wolf can see him coming up short yet again.

Best: Querrey WIN ($1.73)
