West Coast midfielder Chris Masten has been referred directly to the AFL tribunal after allegedly biting Fremantle's Nick Suban during Sunday's fiery Western Derby.

The match review panel (MRP) opened an investigation into the incident following a complaint by Suban.

The pair was wrestling on the ground during West Coast's 24-point win at Subiaco Oval and Suban told the on-field umpire Masten bit him on the arm.

Masten was not reported by match-day umpires but an AFL spokesman confirmed on Monday that the allegation had been noted by umpires and referred to the MRP.

Masten is charged with misconduct as biting is not a specific offence under the MRP guidelines.

Fremantle's Alex Silvagni will also front the tribunal after he was reported for striking Jamie Cripps off the ball.

The incident was caught on camera and appears to show Silvagni elbowing an unsuspecting Cripps about 70 metres away from the play.

West Coast coach Adam Simpson said after the game Cripps has "got probably a fractured jaw".

"We wouldn't have put him back on if it was a broken jaw, but there might be a fracture there. He's pretty sore at the moment," Simpson said.

Meanwhile, Collingwood's Nathan Brown (rough conduct) and North Melbourne's Jack Ziebell (striking) are facing possible two-match suspensions, but can get away with one-game bans with early pleas.

Brown is charged with rough conduct for hitting Sydney's Luke Parker high in Friday night's clash, while Ziebell clobbered Melbourne's Jack Newnes in the head as the Demon took a mark during Saturday's clash in Hobart.

Port Adelaide's Jackson Trengove (misconduct) and Justin Westhoff (rough conduct), Brisbane's Luke McGuane (rough conduct) and Richmond's Brett Deledio (striking) can all accept $1,000 sanction with early pleas.
