Eintracht Frankfurt v Augsburg
Saturday August 22, 14:30
Hobro 1 Nordsjaelland 3 last night. A Danish disaster, so we move on swiftly.
To Germany now, and a clash between two sides who started the Bundesliga campaign with defeats. Eintracht Frankfurt went down 2-1 at Wolfsburg despite playing well for large swathes of the match, while Augsburg were beaten 1-0 at home by Hertha Berlin, and had barrel-chested forward Raul Bobadilla sent off.
After the somewhat surprising departure of swashbuckling coach Thomas Schaaf, Frankfurt brought back Armin Veh, the man who led them back into the top flight.
Last season under Schaaf, The Eagles were the league's great entertainers - 24 of their 34 games featured three goals or more, and of those, 19 featured four goals or more. Although Veh's return is expected to tone things down somewhat, Frankfurt still played on the front foot at Wolfsburg last week, employing Haris Seferovic and new signing Luc Castaignos as a strike pairing in an old-fashioned 4-4-2. If that's to be the plan going forward, I expect Veh's men to play some attractive stuff.
Augsburg failed to score in their first game of the season, but they were denied by a fine display from Hertha keeper Thomas Kraft, and they were hampered by Bobadilla's foolish dismissal. Markus Weinzierl's men finished fifth last season, and many of the attacking stars that contributed to that success remain. Halil Altintop and Tobias Werner are dangerous breaking from midfield, and full-backs Paul Verhaegh and Philipp Max get forward whenever they can. I suspect Max will be able to at least partially fill the void left by Chelsea-bound left-back Baba Rahman.
These two sides played out a 2-2 draw last time they met, and I suspect we could be in for another exciting encounter. Over 2.5 Goals is trading at 1.89, and I think that's a fair price.
Recommended Bet
Back Over 2.5 Goals at 1.89
