Ligue 1 champions Paris St Germain struck twice early on to see off promoted Gazelec Ajaccio 2-0 on Sunday evening at the Parc des Princes.
Blaise Matuidi opened the scoring after 11 minutes with a fierce finish, and captain Thiago Silva powered home a fine downward header from a corner 10 minutes later to double the champions' advantage.
The capital club could not add to the scoreline despite their domination, but they had already done enough to end the weekend top of the fledgling standings - on goal difference from Reims and Caen.
PSG's new signing Angel di Maria was presented to the home fans before kick-off, but was not included in the matchday squad as he continues to build up his fitness following his big-money summer switch from Manchester United.
Predictably, it was Laurent Blanc's side who started the brighter. Lucas Moura had a couple of early attempts blocked and fired wide from just outside the box before Matuidi made the breakthrough.
The France midfielder capitalised on a poor defensive header by bursting through and lashing an unstoppable left-footed shot into the top corner of Clement Maury's net.
Gregory Pujol passed up the visitors' first noteworthy chance on 17 minutes when he glanced a header just wide of the target from Damjan Djokovic's cross.
And four minutes later the hosts were two up, when Thiago Silva leapt highest to despatch Thiago Motta's corner firmly past a helpless Maury.
Jean-Kevin Augustin could have put PSG three goals to the good just after the half-hour mark but nodded narrowly wide from a Maxwell cross, and David Luiz was denied soon after when his right-footed blast was saved by Maury.
The visitors - playing in the top division for the first time - had recovered well from the shaky start, though, and went in at half-time only two down. They could even have cut the deficit to one, when Pujol had another go five minutes before the break, but sent his effort just too high to trouble home goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
It was one-way traffic after the interval, but PSG were unable to find another breakthrough.
Edinson Cavani should have done better when set up by Lucas just after the hour mark, but failed to connect properly when unmarked from 10 yards.
The Uruguay striker was fortunate to avoid punishment shortly after that, with TV replays showing he appeared to eye-gouge Gazelec defender Issiaga Sylla as they jostled for position at a corner.
Lucas was becoming increasingly influential from the set-piece, but the third goal continued to prove elusive.
Augustin sent his shot just wide from a tight angle on the right following Marco Verratti's neat through ball soon after, before Lucas provided crossed for first Cavani and then Luiz to try their luck from headers but to no avail.
Lucas' free-kick 11 minutes from the end was perfect for a stooping Serge Aurier, but he directed his header wide.
Luiz and Cavani had headers in quick succession saved on 84 minutes by Maury as PSG continued their pursuit of goal number three, but it was not to be.
