Sydney has ended Greater Western Sydney's hopes of a maiden AFL finals campaign and boosted its own prospects with a crushing 89-point win in the Battle of the Bridge Sydney derby.
The win lifted it to fourth, above Western Bulldogs who play on Sunday.
It was both its biggest score and biggest winning margin of the season and extinguished any faint finals hopes the Giants had.
A Sydney Showgrounds Stadium AFL ground record of 19,507 witnessed the Swans completely dominate three of the four quarters on their way to a seventh win in eight Sydney derbies.
Even with its season on the line, GWS was not able to match the pressure and intensity of the Swans, who were much more clinical in their goalkicking, despite trailing in disposals at quarter and half time.
Tippett kicked three first-quarter goals as the Swans scampered to a 22-point lead at the opening break.
GWS could not get any closer than 19 points in a second quarter which produced just one goal for either side and which ended with the Swans holding a 24-point lead.
The Swans quickly snuffed out any hope of a Giants second half revival, kicking the first four goals and 27 points of a third quarter which they ended with a 62-point advantage.
The misery continued for the Giants in the final term, as the Swans slammed on six goals to two.
Defender Heath Shaw tallied 32 touches and was a standout in a beleaguered Giants side.
