Unsworth blew his chance but will it be Big Sam?

It's a shame that David Unsworth went on such a bad run of results that meant he was never really going to be given a shot at having the Everton job on anything more than a caretaker basis. At least it would have been a change from the never-ending merry-go-round of Managers who arrive at a Premier League club, stay there for a while, get sacked or leave for some other reason only to emerge somewhere else a few months later as if it all never happened. Allardyce, Pardew, Pulis, Moyes...you can probably add a few of your own to the list.
We'll have to wait and see if Sam Allardyce does in fact get the Everton job he's hot favourite for and what sort of length of contract he's given if it does materialize.
But it will be Unsworth in charge for this one in what may well be his last game as Everton boss. Things may have been a little different for him if during his time in charge he could have been able to call on some of the players likely to be unavailable for this match: Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman, Funes Mori, Mason Holgate, Yannick Bolasie, Ross Barkley, James McCarthy all miss out through injury while Oumar Niasse is suspended.

Moyes doesn't like facing his old club

Former Toffees gaffer David Moyes will have wished it wasn't Everton he was facing so soon into his West Ham career. After all, as Opta tells us, it's only Everton he has faced as a Premier League Manager who he hasn't managed to beat. Incredibly, he's lost all four of his matches in which he's faced Everton. Also Opta.
At least he got a point on the board against Leicester on Friday night but the positives pretty much end there. He too is without several key players including Jose Fonte, James Collins and in Javier Hernandez and Michail Antonio two of his biggest goal threats.

Three lively runners in the match odds market

Take your pick because none of the three outcomes is to be discounted at the current prices. You could point to home advantage and Moyes' bizarrely dreadful record against the Toffees to make a case for 2.44 Everton but then again you could side with West Ham on the basis that Everton simply can't defend and say the Hammers look decent value at 3.35.
Or you could say they're as bad as each other and that neither Manager would be disappointed if it ended a draw, also a 3.35 chance.
In the face of such uncertain options, there's only one option. Leave this market well alone.

Clueless defences lead to an obvious bet

I'm extremely surprised you can get 1.85 on both teams to score. West Ham's last nine games (including that 3-2 win over Spurs in the Cup) have seen them keep just one clean sheet and concede 17 goals. Looking at the same study period for Everton, they have zero clean sheets and managed to concede 27 goals.
Ok, true that West Ham have failed to score in their last two matches against the Blues but then again, that wasn't against Everton sides defending as atrociously as the class of 2017/18.
Backing both teams to score is by far the best bet of the match.

Rooney loves playing this lot

Wayne Rooney certainly didn't return to Goodison Park to be playing a grand total of 0 minutes in Everton's last two league games. But he's quite likely to get a game here in the light of the inability of the others who have been given a chance in his absence.
Especially if Unsworth is aware of how much his Number 10 loves playing the Hammers. His last 15 starts against them have yielded 11 goals and four assists. He's 21/10 to get a goal here. Gylfi Sigurdsson, fresh from scoring at the weekend, is 13/5.
Only the most ardent Andy Carroll fan would take the 13/5 the former Newcastle man scores. It's now 14 hours he's played for the Hammers without getting a goal. Friday night's goalscorer Cheikhou Kouyate is 11/2 to repeat the trick.
Ref Watch
'Young' Michael Oliver's four yellow cards a game this season is probably a little higher than average for a Premier League ref. He's also sent off Serge Aurier and David Luiz in this campaign. But he was in charge of Liverpool v Chelsea at the weekend and managed to avoid showing any cards at all so it's hard to make a call on how this one might go.
