VICTORY IMPORTS THE DIFFERENCE IN BIG BLUE

The defending A-League Champions recruited very, very well in the off-season and as those players begin to click it is becoming clear that the Victory will be a force to be reckoned with this season. Goals from Ola Toivonen and Keisuke Honda secured a 1-2 against Sydney FC with another import Adam le Fondre scoring for the Sky Blues.
The Wolf takes a look at all the action from round 6 of the A-League.

Positive signs for the Mariners over in the West
Whilst another late Chris Ikonomidis goal secured the win for the Glory there were plenty of positive signs for the Mariners despite their 3-2 loss on Sunday afternoon. Whilst they are still defensively poor, having conceded another 3 goals they at least got on the scoreboard and were unlucky not to have taken a point from the match.
The Wolf thinks that the Sky Blues attack will be too much for the Mariners. Unless Central Coast can make this a shootout they simply don’t have the defence to keep this a low scoring game and get a result. Kalifa Cisse offers a tough presence down back but he will miss this game after being sent off. Ross McCormack was very poor against the Glory and it is hard to see the Mariners getting a result if the Scottish striker, Pain and Hoole don’t improve.
BEST BETS: Sydney FC ($1.55)

MELBOURNE CITY (WDLWL) ($1.90) v NEWCASTLE JETS (LDLDW) ($3.70)

Is trouble brewing at Melbourne City?
There were two big pieces of news coming out of Melbourne City this week. Firstly the 2-0 loss to the Roar which the Wolf correctly picked and second the omission of striker Bruno Fornaroli who coach Warren Joyce said simply wasn’t in their best team. City don’t have any pure strikers except for Fornaroli so if he doesn’t feature in their plans going forward they are in big trouble in attack.
The Jets will approach this game with plenty of confidence. A 0-2 win against Western Sydney was their first of the season and realistically it had more to do with the Wanderers failing to take their chances than the Jets being particularly good. The Wolf has no idea how Nigel Boogaard wasn’t booked against the Wanderers, he was like a baby giraffe clumsily walking into challenges. Topor Stanley continues to be a genuine threat in the air and Dimi Petratos was best on the field.
The Jets should sense an opportunity to get a result in this game and if Melbourne City fail to take their chances they might just find it at AAMI Stadium.
BEST BETS: Newcastle Jets-Draw ($1.95)
