The Kangaroos will struggle adjusting to life without their veterans
Form
Adjusting to life without their veterans will be difficult early on with mid tier players being asked to pick up the slack. The Wolf can see the Kangaroos being competitive in 2017 though lacking the class to get over the line in several close matches.
After a disappointing finals series the Eagles have gone all out to make a Premiership push. The signing of classy veteran Sam Mitchell is a huge win for the Club and should clear any possible tags on quality midfielders Shuey and Gaff.
Stats That Matter
– These sides have not met in Melbourne since Round 3, 2010.

– West Coast finished +10% POT to rank 6th in the competition.

What To Expect
North will be looking to see how its young brigade can hold up against a West Coast side packed with talent. Brad Scott has a tough task on his hands as many experts are tipping North Melbourne to fall out of the 8 in 2017. West Coast have been criticised for their performances away from home since entering the competition. If recent history is anything to go by they could be on track to turn that around in season 2017. Their last two interstate trips they defeated the Giants in Sydney and the Crows in Adelaide. On both occasions they were paying over $4 to win the match. This task at Etihad looks a lot easier than those matchups and they will be too good for the Roos here.

Player Markets
The big question in this one is who will step up for North in the midfield after they lost Harvey, Wells and Dal Santo in 2016. Jack Ziebell and Sam Gibson will need to increase their output and push their sub 23 disposals per game average up to 26-27 per game. The Eagles have no shortage of ball magnets with the recruitment of Sam Mitchell adding to their star midfield of Priddis, Shuey and Gaff. One stat that stands out here is Matthew Priddis who averages 10 tackles per game in his last 5 against North Melbourne. He is likely to face stiff competition from Andrew Swallow for the most tackles group A, however the $3.25 on offer for Priddis is too good to refuse.
