NRL Preview
Canberra Raiders v Wests Tigers

Sunday, March 19, 4pm (AEDT), GIO Stadium, Canberra

Both teams were embarrassed in Round 2 and will have a point to prove here. The Raiders will welcome back their inspirational skipper Jarrod Croker and will arguably have their strongest side on the field. The Tigers need more from their halves, Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks, and need their forward pack to support the likes of Aaron Woods and Elijah Taylor.
History
The Raiders have won 4 of the last 5 against the Tigers including 60-6 and 52-10 wins last season.
Form
Canberra would be appalled by their 0-2 start to the season where they have averaged just 16ppg. The Raiders were impressive in taking the Cowboys to golden point in Townsville but failed to come away with the two points before an embarrassing display against the Sharks where they lost 42-16 at home in perhaps the most limp performance of the Ricky Stuart era. The Wests Tigers opened the season with a very impressive win over South Sydney before a stinker at home to Penrith, losing 36-2 in humiliating fashion. The defensive display last Sunday was arguably the worst of the season.
Key Matchup
Blake Austin v Mitchell Moses. Former Tiger, Austin will have a point to prove in this one and will be a constant threat for any lazy Tigers defenders. For a consecutive week, Moses will take on a former Tigers No.6 and will be hoping for a better effort this week, after Te Maire Martin looked the more impressive of the two.
Stats That Matter
Canberra are 1-1 ATS with a 1-1 over-under number while Wests Tigers are also 1-1 ATS and 1-1 over-under. The Raiders have won 4 of the last 5 against the Tigers including 60-6 and 52-10 wins last season. The Tigers have covered 6 of their last 7 away from their suburban home grounds but they are 10-18 ATS getting 6 or more since 2014. The Tigers have covered just 12 of their last 32 day games while the Raiders are 27-13 over in day games over the same time with eight straight overs.
Final Thoughts
Both teams are wounded, but the Raiders huge pack should be able run over the Tigers like they did on both occasions in 2016. Croker is a massive in for the Raider and the Tigers simply don’t have the forwards, other than Woods, to match the Raiders forwards and take the pressure off Brooks and Moses. This could get ugly for Jason Taylor’s men.
