Italy v Uruguay

Even after selecting one of the most inexperienced line-ups of his long tenure as Germany's Bundestrainer, Jogi Loew retains a knack for digging out results. Die Mannschaft were heading for defeat in Denmark last night, only for a superb overhead kick from Joshua Kimmich to secure a late leveller in a 1-1 draw. That suited us and our Under 2.5 Goals bet just fine.

There's more international friendly action for us tonight, as Italy take on Uruguay in Nice.

There's a real buzz about Italy at the moment. Coach Giampiero Ventura has enhanced his reputation as a coach who is prepared to give youngsters an opportunity, and since a 3-1 defeat to France in September, the Azzurri are unbeaten. Ventura has politely brushed off rumours about a big-money move to the Chinese Super League, and is fully focused on the World Cup and the following European Championships. There's plenty to be hopeful about, with Italy only behind Spain on goal difference in their WC2018 qualifying group.

Uruguay's situation isn't so rosy. La Celeste have lost their last four games, including their last three World Cup qualifiers. They are still third in the qualifying competition, but sixth-placed Ecuador are now just three points behind them. Conceding goals has been the problem recently, with 12 leaked in the last four matches.

For tonight's game, Uruguay will be without their best two attacking players, as both Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani have succumbed to hamstring injuries. At the other end, defensive behemoth Diego Godin is also sidelined.

Given Uruguay's awful form and their injury issues, I'm happy to back Italy to win tonight, even though they are likely to omit the Juventus players that featured in the Champions League final in Cardiff.
