FC Koln v Werder Bremen

A magnificent seven for us in France last night, as our boys Sedan smashed CA Bastia 7-1. We're already guaranteed a profit for the week, so we can head to Germany with a spring in our step.

There's a huge game in Cologne, as FC Koln take on Werder Bremen. Both clubs have their sights set on a place in the Europa League, but there's a difference in how they have arrived in the midst of the battle for the top six.

Werder have completed a remarkable transformation this season. They took just 16 points from their first 20 leagues games, and relegation was looming large. However, a run of nine wins and two draws has not only eliminated fears about the drop, but a European jaunt is now on the cards. Striker Max Kruse has hit an extraordinary purple patch, contributing ten goals and four assists in the last eight games. Even Werder's notoriously porous defence has tightened up, conceding just 15 goals in the last 14 games.

On the other hand, Koln have lost their momentum, winning just two of their last 12 matches. Star striker Anthony Modeste has scored in just one of his last six appearances, and the lack of service to the Frenchman has been noticeable. The Billy Goats have hugely missed injured set-piece specialist Marcel Risse in the last couple of months, and although last weekend's goalless draw at Borussia Dortmund was a return to the gritty football that Koln are best at, they have generally looked more vulnerable in defence in 2017.

Werder are in incredible form, whilst Koln have lost confidence and attacking rhythm. Although I expect a raucous atmosphere in the carnival city, I don't understand why Werder are outsiders here. We can back Alexander Nouri's men with a bit of insurance.
