NRL Preview
Wests Tigers v Sydney Roosters

Sunday, June 11, 4pm (AEST), Campbelltown Stadium, Sydney

The Tigers had their opportunities to upset the Dragons last week, but lacked composure and class at crucial times of the match. The Roosters recorded a tough win over the Broncos in Round 13 and it was a valuable two competition points, with so many Origin stars backing up from both sides. Mitchell Pearce returns for the Roosters after missing last week’s win due to the concussion protocol, while Luke Brooks and Chris Lawrence both miss the clash with the Tri-colours through injury. Bondi-bound James Tedesco will take on the Roosters before joining their ranks in 2018.

History
The Roosters have historically dominated the Tigers winning eight straight and 12 of the last 13. They have posted 32 points in eight straight against the Tigers while the Tigers have been held to single digits in four of the last five matches. The Roosters won last year’s clash 32-18 at Allianz Stadium.
Form
Wests Tigers are down to 15th on the ladder with a 3-9 record with their -142 differential the worst in the NRL. The Tigers have lost their last four and have averaged just 9 points per game over that run. They have the worst attack in the NRL averaging just 13.67 per game. The Roosters are up to fourth on the ladder with a 9-4 record. The Roosters have won five of their last seven but have conceded at least 16 in their last three. The Roosters are conceding 16.25ppg on the road this year.
Key Matchup
Tuimoala Lolohea v Luke Keary. Lolohea made a steady debut for the Tigers last week, although he did have a lapse in defence which allowed Tyson Frizell to cruise through a gap for a try. He definitely looks underdone after spending the majority of the season in the Warriors NSW Cup side and will get better as the season progresses. He’s definitely a special talent and will face another tough test against the Roosters. Keary will relish the return of Mitchell Pearce this week to allow him to go back to playing his natural game as a runner rather than an organiser. He’s been one of the buys of the year and will create plenty of headaches for the Tigers defence when he takes on the line.
Stats That Matter

  • Wests Tigers are 5-7 ATS with an 8-4 under record while the Sydney Roosters are 6-6 ATS with an 8-4 under record.
  • The Roosters have historically dominated the Tigers winning eight straight and 12 of the last 13.
  • The Roosters have posted 30 points+ in eight straight against the Tigers while the Tigers have been held to single digits in four of the last five matches.
  • The Tigers have not got within 14 points in the last eight with the average margin over that time 27.37 points.
  • The Tigers have covered just 3 of their last 12 at Campbelltown while the under has hit in 12 of the last 16 at the ground.
  • The Tigers have covered just 3 of their last 9 at the venue as an outsider.
  • Home underdogs of 8 or more cover at 64% since 2008 but during the Origin period that falls to 46%.
Final Thoughts
This could get ugly for the Tigers. Other than James Tedesco at fullback, the Tigers look completely mismatched across the field. The Roosters have the wood on them, scoring 30 points+ in their past eight clashes and shouldn’t have too many problems at Campbelltown on Sunday afternoon.
